Thanks for all the good wishes. They must have worked because I've got the job :j :j :j . So as of next Monday, I shall be gainfully employed and of fixed abode.

This must be the supreme irony for me. I've spent longer than I can remember taking the mickey out of welders and also ripping the whatsits out of Hull and suddenly I'm living in Hull and working as a welder :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Have a good evening all.

    Man try :D

There was me thinking the wind was blowing inland the smell of the treatment plant on the Prom and it was really Morwenna's kitchen sink! :D

and there was me thinking the "lighthouse" at South Shore would take care of that :rotfl:

I have a few cheats to give an absent DF the (false) impression of good-housewifery too: wipe down the granite hearth, wipe the bathroom basin round & give the loo a swish, tidy up the post heap by the front door & take the dyson out of the cupboard then put it back the wrong way.....so he thinks I've vacced - as if! That's his job!! ;)

    Well done Martyn  .

Not sure I would prefer Hull to Wareham, but then I know you have your reasons for wanting to be there ;)
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D
  • PippaS, I struggle to get to grips with facebook too - but if you go to www.facebook.com and then somewhere there is a button with Register or Create Profile (I think), that should take you through it step by step. You don't have to worry about adding pics straight away (although it's fascinating putting faces to names now :) )

Betheeebee, glad you DH could still have his test (so he could have had brekkie too?!). Hope your arm is a bit less painful today too.
Anniestar, hope you & Mark are ok today, glad you have been able to have some thoughts about what you are going to do for Phoebe. And cry as much as you want. ((((hugs)))).
Thank you - sorry can't remember who - about the tip for getting "whites white" with stardrops, soda crystals etc - I shall give that a go :)
Martyn, congratulations!!!!!!!!!! That's brilliant news :j

DH phoned earlier there were 10 cars on the parking area and 4 buses stood idle for the park and ride so guess our council tax will go up again next year to pay for their c*ck up

    Marvellous....

It occurred to me earlier, next thing we know they'll be trying to do what they do at the bandstand, but put screens round the sky & block off the entire seafront from Pevensey Bay to Beachy Head, just in case somebody sees a plane for free!!!!!! Was not one of the main "selling points" that it was the largest FREE airshow in Europe? I only heard about 3 planes go over this afternoon, all very small sounding, so doesn't sound like much of a turnout. My mum said apparently they are not even announcing over the loud-speaker system what is coming when - the only way to find out is to buy an programme (they're probably £5 as well). Will be very interesting once the sums are done. I should think all the stalls & everything will suffer too as people even have to pay to get into the areas where they are.

I hope those responsible for this fiasco are sacked - but unfortunately I expect they'll be promoted instead... I think the whole attitude of our Council is moneygrabbing, petty & childish. As you can tell I'm sitting on the fence on this one.....:rotfl:

Hello. This is Anniestar`s DH ( sorry about using my real name last time) .

Thank you for all your kind comments , especially those of you who took the time to suggest possible plants to accompany Phoebe in her sleep . I know Ann (DW?) has found this site and many of the people here to be of great support ( and she`s always enjoyed the sense of community).

Phoebe was always happiest in bed but that`s not possible so we`ve decided that she will be sleeping at the top of the back garden next to the herb garden . We chose this as it`s the sunniest part of the garden and I couldn`t stand having her lying in the shadows . Also Phoebe means brightness and light , a reference to Phoebus Apollo I guess. We`ve got some bright white stones to lay on top of her grave , which will symbolise the duvet she was so fond of , and then we`ll try to create a big gold star on top of that from some very glittery gravel I got from B+Q in-between crying . Then we`re going to get up early tomorrow and greet the sunrise with glasses of Cava over the grave . No doubt the other idiotic cats will be in attendance and that`ll be nice . And then........life goes on . We let her go and we remember the long and happy life we had with her.

I think we become so close to our pets because our relationships with them are not complicated as our relationships with family, friends or partners are . There`s no frustrations or disappointments or resentments in these relationships ; I couldn`t say the same about my relationship with my parents, for example . I`m aware many people find the love for a pet baffling ; it`s just a dog or a cat or whatever . What they don`t understand is the purity of the relationship ; trust and friendship .We could all do with those things - some people are lucky enough to get some of it from their pets . It`s not silly or immature or strange , it just improves the quality of life and that`s a very good thing . Hold close the things you love and treasure them .

Take care ( with special thoughts for Kaatlady and Archie)

Well done, Martyn! Good luck with the new job!

Beth - hope your arm is feeling better now.

Mr AnnieS - I know how much pets can mean to their owners. I have had four cats altogether and losing them is harder to cope with than you expect it to be. Phoebe's final resting place sounds perfect!

I'm collecting lots of friends on Facebook now - one day I'll know how to navigate it properly but, meanwhile, thanks for all the invites!

Well, I can't believe how early the light is fading these days _ I've just put the sitting room lamps on (two instead of the usual three, to save energy) and it's starting to really feel like autumn. Mind you, we have had lovely weather for the entire day but DH was working only five miles away and he said they had a long heavy downpour! Still, we've managed to mow the lawns and trim a few hedges so the garden looks a lot more respectable now.

Anyway, I'm off to watch Mock the Week - see you later.
