got a panny sd254 off freecycle, they used it for a couple of months, lost the paddle and couldnt be bothered to get another one for it so gave it away! cost me £13ish off ebay for a new one - their loss is our gain, just eating our first loaf and i have to say i've never had bread like it out of my other bms as its so light.
can't wait to try out the brioche loaf'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
THe brioch was the second loaf I made! YUM! I added sultanas though and it was stunning!
WinkyRight now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0 -
In the earlier manuals they also say you can use dried sundried tomatoes if you soak them in oil before using, this is very good to know as Tesco have 100g for 99p whereas in oil the cheapest i could find was £2.58
I use the Aldi sun dried tomatoes in oil, they are £1.19 and I get 2 of the parmesan and sun dried tomato loaves from a jar of these.0 -
I haven't used bread mix before but have bought a packet of the Hovis Granary bread mix but I am not sure which setting to put it on. It says use the 2lb wholewheat loaf. I usually only make a sandwich mix with 14oz flour which is the perfect size for the 2 of us. I am concerned that the packet mix will give us a very large loaf. Can anyone advise if this is the case?
If a 2lb loaf made from the Hovis Granary mix is too large, might I suggest you make the 2 lb granary loaf, but when it's cooled, cut in half and put one half in the freezer?0 -
Bit envious of all you people who's had nice soft bread from this machine. Although I've only had it 1 day my loaves have come out a bit heavy. They rise well and I'm happy with the crust and taste but just a bit too stodgy for my liking. I'm using Allison's Extra Strong Flour, perhaps this is where my problem lies, I'm gonna by some more standard Strong Flour today and have another go!
I just wondered if anyone could suggest where I might be going wrong. I'm cooking on the standard 4hour white bake programme.
Also can anyone clarify, 1tsp sugar from the recipe book. Is this heaped or flat?
Thanks all, look forward to cracking this wonderful machine!

Do you use the spoons that came with the machine Gary cuz I found a huge difference in the ones in my cutlery drawer
The recipe I use for XL white in a 254 is:-
1.25 teaspoons yeast...I use Doves Farm dried
20oz bread flour.........I use Lidl
2 teaspoons sugar.......I use levelled granulated
1oz marg.................I use soft Stork
1.5 teaspoons salt.......I use the ordinary table salt
360ml water.............I use the cup that came with the machine
Touch wood [I'm holding a pencil] I've never had any troubles.

Thanks for your kind reply, I'll give this a go according to your measurements. Yes I'm using the supplied measuring devices. Tbh I think it's probably the flour that's at fault, I'll give it another go today I think with some normal bread flour following your guide and I'll let you know how I get on!

I've tried Allinson flours in the past and haven't had much luck with them, I got flat and tasteless loaves. Similarly with Doves Farm bread flour, even though I use the yeast and that's fine ???
I found that supermarket own brand flour works fine.0 -
I used the hovis white bread mix to make pizza dough and it was brillant.
As well as the butter i added a little olive oil, i was really pleased with the end result. Oh and children loved the pizza. It made two very big pizzas but next time i'll make 3 med/large pizza's
I'm now trying to make some rolls with it.
Not bad for about 30 - 35p (including butter +oil)Kind Regards
