I think they only do quarterly billing if you only have the phone service. So there's time yet.
  • oh right ,ok thanks for that
  • I need some help with my post office homephone bill. I recently had some time off work after having an emergency operation and the phone bill came in, but when we couldn't pay it they gave it to a debt collection agency, which we paid at regular intervals, to clear the balance. When our next bill came in, we have both bill amounts to pay. We have rung them and explained, we have sent a copy of all the receipts of the last bill with a covering letter (to be fair we don't know if they have received this, because we have had no reply to it). We rang the debt collection agency and they agree that they sent the amount to P.O. homephone and they consider our balance cleared. P.O. homephone will not seem to help us clear it up. They simply say they are not able to help and we will have to pay the bill. We are going to make a formal complaint to them but what else can we do?

Resend your proof, this time use recorded delivery to ensure it's signed for. Ask them to confirm back to you in writing that the bill has been paid.

Pay them what you owe from the second bill (over the counter at a post office, and get a receipt). Then they have no reason to set the agency on you again.

    Pursue your complaint separately.
  • Try the post Office for home phone, I have been quoted £10.72 per month with free calls after 6pm until 6am and all weekend from 6pm Friday up till 6am Monday and also some international calls:j , max time is 1 hour which is pretty good then you can redial.
Have not hit the catch yet
    Happy calling

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Especially since they introduced FREE weekend calls to UK mobiles and FREE weekend calls to the Top 20 International Landlines destinations just over 3 months ago. I thought I would let you know my thoughts on what I think of them.

Just received my 3 month paper itemised Phone Bill to 20 December.

    3 months line rental £27.960
    110 calls £4.938
    VAT @ 15% on £32.90 £4.94

    Bill total £37.84

During that time I made 22 FREE weekend and evening calls to UK landlines

37 FREE weekend calls to UK mobiles

2 FREE weekend calls to International numbers, I would have hit them harder but as the FREE calls to International Landlines and UK mobiles only came in 3 months ago, I just wanted to double make sure they were FREE.

    1471 and 1571 FREE.

18 days to pay the bill and no penalty for paying by cash.

Very pleased with PO Home Phone and having spent nearly 11 hours in total phoning mobiles for FREE at the weekend, I don't know how they could afford to do it for the price but long may it continue.
  • Hi

I have recently signed up to a post office telephone line (the engineer is coming on the 16th) as the only reason we need a telephone line is for broadband and we like the min 1 month contract.

The main thing that swung us though was that we were led to believe there would be no connection charge. I have now read more into this on this forum and am quite confused.

The people that rented the property before us had a BT telephone line, which was 6 months ago. I assume this means the line is already there but we have an engineer coming out. Is he coming out to install a new line or to check whether we have to pay a connection charge?

If anyone can shed any light on this it would be very much appreciated as I'm now not so sure if going with the Post office will in fact be the best deal

When i joined Post Office in August i was told there may be a connection charge aswell. Apparently they dont know if you will be charged until they connect you (up to £110 to connect i think). The engineer would be going to connect your line on the 16th.
Not sure about the charge as they are having billing trouble and you may be one of the lucky ones who actually get a bill, i havent had a bill since ive been with them since August, my mums been with them for almost a year and has never had one, they just say you will get a bill eventually.
Dont allow someone to be your priority.....whilst letting you be their option

I read somewhere else on this forum that if you haven't had a bill for over 12 months then they can't recover that 12 months

I think it was on the Gas and Electric threads
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
  • Hi,
Be very careful with them, they have led me to believe that they would charge me nothing for the connection, and in case of installing a new line £105. now they have billed me for £110 because of a series of excuses that have apeared out of nowhere and outwith the initial agreement!
so don't let the engineer do anything if he doesn't tel you in very clear ways how much exactly is going to cost you.
Also the thing about not knowing how much they are going to charge you until they connect you is not acceptable, they should give a specific list of charges on what is what.
My complaint letter to them is about three pages long, and i hate writing!

    good luck
