Post Office Phone

When you sign up with Post Office Home Phone they automatically bring over from BT any existing call features that you have.

I quote from their FAQ

"Will I be able to change my call features?
We will transfer all your existing call features across"

This means if you have got free caller display with BT they the PO will charge for it £1.75p a month. So up goes your line rental from £9.95p to £11.70p a month. Also if you have four chargeable call features with BT they give you one free. The PO dont and will charge you for the fourth one.
I have spoken with their CS folks and they confirmed this to be the case.

The CS guy also said they were also automatically blocking all calls to the likes of 1899/18866/18185 etc.

Good info, thanks, almost joined the other day! G
  • I spoke to CS today and she said they dont bar the 1899/18185 etc numbers so maybe some overall clarification on this one is needed.
Is anyone already on the Post Office phone service and could give this a try?
  • I spoke to a manager in their cs team and he said they did. Even if they dont they still can if they want to.It would be interesting to hear from existing users to see if they do at moment.

4.3 of their T&C covers this see this pdf ftp://ftp.royalmail.com/Downloads/public/ctf/po/HomePhone%20terms%20and%20conditions%2019%20Jan%2006.pdf

PS. I have again spoken to a different manager in their CS who said " its not possible to dial short codes ,we are on to it ,and we have barred them, we dont want to lose money"

Possibly sales tell you they do to get figures up!!!!

  • I had it confirmed today when I called the 24 Hour Customer Care Line (0800 092 0511) prior to a transfer date of 3rd February, that all calls to 1899/18185 etc. are being blocked. Even with the £30 Quidco cashback on top of the £50 bribe, it wasn't worth it for me, so I cancelled the service.
    Thanks for the info!

Is access to 0800 or 0808 based indirect suppliers being blocked? I guess these would need to be specifically identified and barred (in the way Orange used to when other 0800 were free) as a blanket block on 0800/0808 could not be possible.

I dont know if they will be blocking access freephone numbers, that go to cheaper call providers, but it is just another form of indirect access, and the likes of 1899 etc usually charge extra to call via these numbers.

  • I have now actually signed up with the post office and my change over date was Friday. When I rang the post office I was always told that the 18185/1899 numbers are not blocked, and I can now confirm after trying them today that they are not blocked.
Of course I believe there is a get out clause in there T&C's that they may revoke this but I can definately say that I can use them.

Another point is that with your welcome pack you get details about refer a friend and you both get £10. So luckily I have a friend who is about to join, so I have £50 from post office, £30 quidco and £10 refer a friend(eventually), So thats almost a years line rental sorted.

    Hi,

    Please could you advise me?

I'd like to switch from BT to PO Home Phone. As I have BT broadband, would this be possible?

    Thanks.
  • Hiya,

This could go one of two ways.. I moved from BT to PO Homephone, and my broadband wasn't affected however my broadband wasn't throught BT I have a different ISP.

If your not billed through your BT phone bill for BB there shouldn't be a problem. If you are, see if you can get a seperate Direct Debit/CC payment with them.

In all there should be no problem, if you have concerns, just let us know and we'll try to help, or call 150 they should advise you aswell.

    Hope this helps

If you do so you will lose your right to route calls via other operators. Do you realise this?
