i have my line rental and phone bill with the post office and my broadband with tiscali. i have been looking around to have land line and broadband with the same package such as talk talk. though it says i must have a bt land line. does this mean i have to switch back to bt from the post office for my home phone in order to then change to talk talk, i have had no trouble with tiscali, but they dont do free line rental in my area, also they say you have to have a bt land line. so i am a bit confused0

Your post office phone is a bt line.
Don't switch back to BT - you will find yourself in a minimum 12 month contract with them before you can move on to talktalk (or be faced with a large early termination fee to pay to BT).0 -
if i sign up to talk talk, will they do everything for me, or do i have to contact the post office to cancel and also with tiscali. not sure witch broadband to change to but know i can get a better combined deal, any recommendations please0

To be certain you could make sure yourself by contacting the post office - their ts + cs say you have to give 15 days notice to quit (though make sure everything dovetails so that you aren't cut off by one company before the other take over).
You will have to give notice yourself to end your broadband contract. Ask for a MAC.0 -

The reason I ask is that I have looked at their wording and it looks very suspicious to me cos in their T&C they do state with the landline calls you can dial as many times as you like but they do not state this on mobiles.
They have now made it more clearer.EG:
From 8 September 2008 the following changes below will apply.
New benefits - Post Office HomePhone® customers will get- free weekend1 calls to all UK, US and Canadian mobiles up to 60 minutes, 5ppm thereafter

Hi Im new to the board, but looking for some help please. Ive just received a hefty bill from Post Office home phone, which seems to be due to the fact that we call both mobiles and landlines at anytime (UK Only) - rather than fitting in with their profile of cheap/inclusive calling after 6. This bill has prompted me to look at other options in the market. Can anyone please suggest a good provider than can provide me with a single bill and a flat monthly fee for anytime / unlimited UK mobile / landline calls. Im happy to pay more than the standard 10.95 a month with Post Office, I just want to avoid a bill that fluctuates as much as the one Ive just received.
Many thanks in advance - Lee0 -
Nobody offers a calls package which offers unlimited calls to mobiles.
The best I know of is Primus's Penny Mobile CPS packages which allow calls to any UK mobile of up to 20 minutes for a flat rate of 20p.
You'd need to change back to BT line rental to be able to sign up to that CPS calls provider service though.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks for the advice, it is appreciated. I noticed BT have anytime, which has part of what I want, but only 30% off mobiles - at least that would only make one bill I suppose.

If you phone one mobile regularly you can nominate it as a loved one and get 10% off calls to it.
If you make lots of Mobile Calls at weekend , they will be including Free Weekend UK Mobile calls from 8th Sept 2008.;)
You can also use www.18185.co.uk in conjunction with them for cheaper peak geographical and anytime mobile calls.0 -
I have just moved to a property that used to have a BT phone. I am looking to go with Talk Talk as I want broadband too. I need to get line rental though - BT is saying 12 months contract. The post office say they dont' have a contract, so it seems better. The only thing is the post office say they can charge up to £210 to reconnect but BT said its free. The PO said its likely to be free but the engineer would need to call. Anyone had any experience of this?0
