Any 'line provider' can get Openreach to install/connect/reconnect a line.

As you want to go to Talk Talk, why not just get them to do that? Don't accept any, "you have to have a working BT line before....." nonsense. If they want your business, they should be willing to organise the line.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Not sure if this has already been posted but as the title says " Post Office for Landline Connection"
After moving home recently (yes, one of the few who has managed to sell and buy) I had to get a landline connected so i rang BT, I asked to keep my number from the old property and different provider and they said yes no problem. So I signed up. Mistake.
The day I was supposed to " go live" no joy. Kept on ringing our home number, nothing. My wife then rang BT, got passed to five different deps and put on hold for a total of 35mins. Eventually we were told that we had been given a different number not our original number. I then told them to forget the whole thing and that I wanted to cancel, they said ok but they would charge me £161 cancellation fee:eek: I said no, you are in breach of contract and after more phonecalls and aggro:mad: they agreed to "waive the fee":j
Then, I had the dilema of no land line.
I then spoke to somebody from Talk Talk, a very helpfull individual, who told me that you can now get a landline put in by the Post Office.
So I rang the number he gave me and again spoke to a very helpfull individual from the Post Office and basically, they have no tie in contract with you, you can switch whenever you want, free evening and weekend calls to uk landlines, free calls anytime to other post office homephones, this includes your line rental, all for £10.99 a month. Happy days.
I am now "live" and also switching to talk talk for their Global calls, free broadband thingy. So thanks to bloke from talk and thanks to Post Office and BT, you can go and F*@? yourselves.

    Rant over

BTW, Number for Post office is 0800 0920500

You can expect the Post Office to bring in a minimum term contract soon now that Talk Talk have started to abuse the loophole .

They do undercut BT's standard pricing - £110.00. (Though they don't come near the BT discounted offer!)
  • This sounds promising, will look into it in morning

If you look at the call rates tab it confirms the charge "inclusive (for up to 60 mins per call)".

Does anyone know if the PO block 4 digit codes that bypass them e.g. 1899 for 0p UK national calls?
