Part 21.2. Shame otherwise a reasonable deal.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Thanks to both of you for the quick response. I was thinking of the cheapest way to get free international calls to some countries (EU) as advertised by talktalk. I actually called talktalk who told me they will give me free evening + weekend + international calls to over 30 countries (12 months) + I can keep my BT line. I spoke with BT who are willing to restart my line free but will be locked into 12 month contract. So I was considering restarting line through PO but unfortunately as you have pointed out it won't work out.
Are there any other options that I can explore about the free EU calls?
Thanks again.0 -
I think you are misunderstanding the BT 12 month contract thing RDMD. That ties you to BT line rental (the Unlimited Weekend Plan @ £10.50/month is the cheapest option) for 12 months but does not stop you using a CPS calls provider (and indirect access providers line 1899, 18185 and 18866) immediately.
Based on what you say, Talk Talk appears to be offering a CPS service but I have my doubts about exactly what they are offering if it doesn't involve them taking over your line rental too. If they're talking about their £10.49/month Talk Global Anytime package, is that available as a CPS service? I'd advise caution there. Are you sure they're not just playing with words when they tell you you can 'keep your BT line'?
You can certainly get inclusive international calls from some CPS calls providers. Sky's Sky Talk Anytime is one (£5/month if you also have a Sky TV subscription) and Euphony's £5.99/month euTALKultra (18 month contract) and £6.99/month (12 month contract) euTALKextra are two others. But they're all inclusive packages, not free.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Their is no mention of any inclusive intl calls being included in their CPS bundles on the Talk Talk site see:
http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-server-PageServer?article=MAIN.UK.TALKTALK.STATIC.LLSTATIC.KEEPLINERENTAL
I would proceed with caution as suggested by Heinz.0 -
Thanks very much for your responses. Makes me wonder if talktalk just wanted me to agree and they would have have taken over my line rental too. Can they do that without my authorisation?
I will look into the sky option.0 -

Sky Talk Unlimited CPS is one of the possible alternative CPS providers mentioned in footnote (iii) to the series of suggestions under the HERE link in my signature below.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hi
As anyone on here experienced problems since joining the Post Office homephone scheme?
My father joined it in November 2007, and when by March this year he had not yet received any bill whatsoever, he enquired at the local Post Office. They rang through to a call centre, and he was told it would be sorted, there had been some problems, and he would not be billed for the last 3 months or so.
Since then he has been in several times, and been told the same thing.
Today he went in, and suddenly in an about turn, they are saying he will be having to pay back dated phone bills, but they cant say how much they will be.
It seems there has been some all mighty !!!! up and basically, everyone is
passing the buck, and it stops with my dad being lumbered. Its not that he doesnt want to pay thats the reason he has kept going in because he likes to be straight with money and know where he stands.
What can you do when you are literally saying "please let me pay you" they are fobbing him off, and now changing their story??I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Just to let you know...
I signed up for a phone line with them last week...was promised my phone number in 5 days and the connection in 2 weeks.
Still hadn't had the number through, so rang up 2 days ago, was told computers down, rang again yesterday, computers still down, rang again today and was told the same thing.
I asked when I could expect to receive the number as lots of things were waiting on that allocation and was put on hold.
5 minutes later I had my new phone number as he'd managed to get it somewhere.
So if you're waiting for them too, persist and they can get hold of the information you need.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Just received my Post Office Home Phone Bill.
72 phone calls (all evening and weekend calls free) £5.75
Line Rental 21 Jun to 20 Sep £27.96
VAT £5.45
Total Bill £39.16
Less Direct Debit Discount £2.55
Bill to pay £36.61
10% off 10 chosen loved ones and free calls at Christmas and Birthdays and free evening and weekend calls.
I don't pay a penny to BT and as far as I know they have the cheapest line rental at £27.96 a quarter.
If anyone knows of a cheaper home phone provider, please let me know.
I keep getting cards from BT through the post but their line rental is more expensive.0
