  • I stab the haggis and bung it in the rice cooker steamer basket with the swede (yes, I am part Scot, but I live down here :D) and potatoes. Set and forget until later.

    Yummy.

But DD would probably contact the NSPCC if I tried feeding something like that to her. She threatened to run away from home when she found out the additional contents of faggots, compared to meatballs, after all.

    [sigh]

    Wish I was.

    Add on some nice whiskey.

    [sigh]

  • Ours was fabby too, even got youngest son to have a bit :) We have it probably once a fortnight in one form or another.

Arran haggis Pakora is delicious, but I find it works better with Haggis fresh from the pack if you are using a premade one, once its been reheated its not quite so good for pakora as it doesn't stick together very well.

  • We didn;t manage it again :( I shall be seeing if I can get one for later in the week, and boiling it, as I've been told by a Scots friend :T She recited the Burns poem for me, too :T

I'll add this to the existing thread to keep cooking ideas together.

Is there a way to use up left over haggis?
Only two of us eat it and any leftovers just go to waste.
I've always thought that it would be dodgy to re-heat am I right?
    thanks

    Haggis pizza!!!

    Honestly.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Of course most times I used to eat haggis it was from the chip shop deep fried in batter, with chips salt and vinegar*.

We had haggis, neeps and tatties last night and leftovers tonight, yummy!

Quite often I try to make double the amount I'm cooking and make a Burns pie (my name for it - I'm sure it's not a new invention and already has a proper name). It's basically a layer of haggis then neeps topped off with mashed potatoes (like a shepherds pie basically). I then freeze it and that's another meal taken care of.

DH mixed lots of leftover mashed potatoes with a little leftover haggis and that was also very tasty - a bit like stovies.

Hello all I hope you can help me with a little dilemma.

The Oh bought a haggis just after burns night for £2 which serves 10-its great as we both love haggis but how do i get the most out of it? Now there are only 2 of us and i dont want to waste any but i'm presuming that it will only last for a few days after we cook it so we'll only get 6 meals out of it before we have to chuck it.
Is there anyway of making a pie say and then freezing the pie? Would that be safe. Plus does anyone have any good recipes as i dont want to eat haggis and neeps 3 days in a row!!

It's huge and taking up a whole shelf in my freezer so i'd love the space back.

    Hi,

I was going to suggest making a curry, and then freezing it.

Found this recipe for lasagne, sounds good, have a look at the similar recipes box also.

Can be fried up for breakfast, kind of like black pudding, with tomatoes, bacon etc.
You can make haggis meatballs to have with spaghetti and sauce, crumble some cheese over them when cooking.
Sorry I can`t think of anything else, I love haggis though and would happily eat it three days in a row! :D
It`s ok to freeze too after cooking.
