I'm Scottish and cook the haggis in the microwave and sometimes make it into a Scottish version of shepherd's pie.

Put cooked haggis in the bottom of an ovenproof dish, add a layer of mashed turnip then a layer of mashed potatoes. Heat in oven till potatoes are slightly crispy. Bet Rabbie would love it!

I bought a haggis from the butcher, it is already cooked so just need heating up, I will take the skin off and put it in a dish in the microwave. If you stick it in the pressure cooker, it might explode.

Of course it's Burn's night. Personally I steam mine in a pan with a little water.

I had mine on Sunday with a lady friend. As she'd never had haggis of any description, we had one of the Halls ones, microwaved, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

OK, it's not the real McCoy, but they're an acquired taste, even for a Scot. The Halls ones may be a plastic rugby ball of minced, spiced lamb offal and oatmeal, but they're still good VFM at £1.67 for 1 pound in weight.

And I'm sure Rabbie would understand that even a Sassenach "haggis" is better than nae haggis at all.

  • We're having veggie haggis and pre moneysaving days I would have wraped it in foil, and put it in the casserole in the oven with a wee drop of water in the dish but now I just strip it and nuke it, :)

DH is having halls sliced haggis and it will be wrapped in foil and done in oven, as will my veggie version (McSween ready sliced).
