• If you read the terms there are certain places you can't use them. Car rental and hotels are out, as are petrol pumps where you put the card in the pump.

Can't see why M&S wouldn't take it.

You cant use it at the pay-at-pump machines because they require 'pre-authorisation' the same as hotel bookings etc... Actually paying at the kiosk works fine.

Thank you - I rarely have cash on me and am always on the verge of running out of petrol so its handy for me to have as a back-up as i don't have a normal credit card (and never have money in the bank lol)
• I topped up £250 on the card in the first instance and it was ok.

I then topped up £1000 a few days later - which I didn't realise was above the their £1000 a week limit.

A week later, Paypal still cannot find this £1000 or give me any idea when it would be recredited - either to the card or paypal account.

I realise I went over their limit - but their process still took this card from my paypal and further account. It didn't flag it as a problem.

I am furious and am not getting anywhere - the services has been appalling in getting an answer.
• Hi

I have this card and have for a while.

Please ensure that you have read the terms of the card, as you can not load more than £1000 per week onto the card.

I made this mistake and transfered £600 on the 12th August and my top is still not on my card.

After days of phones calls at great expense , and no proper answer from a call centre that was receiving hundreds of calls a day from customers with the same problem i decided to blag my way and get to speak to the Chief Executives Office for Royal Bank of Scotland who actually run this project.

I spoke to Elliot in the office who was very sympathetic and it appears that nobody at RBS knew the true scale of the issues.

After today I was informed by the call centre that i would get a check in a couple of weeks as they can not put this money on the card now.

Two weeks further to wait, i was not willing, so again i rang Elliot who had further info for me. Told me that they could only send a cheque as I am not an RBS customer and they can not credit my account so they would send a cheque tonight.

Bear in mind i will have to wait to tuesday / wednesday to get it after the bank holiday, also then bank it and wait a further 5 days for it to clear. This is not on.

They then went on to offer me £50 for compensation, i have declined and will send a letter in, as I feel the sum is not enough for calls made from my mobile, the downside of having no money for the bank holiday.

If anybody is having problems of the same , you will get a cheque like me i am told, and they will work through the accounts of all the people that over topped up.

I am not happy and think its a disgrace.

The number below is for the Chief Executives Office and ask for Elliot who will deal with your enquiry

0131 5568555

Its a joke............................
• All People Should Ring The Office , I am sure after getting 100's of calls we all may actually get somewhere.

I find it hard to believe that a bank can only send a cheque out and not credit our cards, as my card topup is now below the 7 days limit.

RBS and PAYPAL what the hell are you doing, it's a farce

I transferred £180 from my Paypal funds onto my Paypal Top Up Card yesterday at 10:05. I read in the T&C it takes 1 day to clear (why??) so was expecting it to have cleared by 10:05 today at the latest. Huh! Nothing there. My Paypal account says the transaction has been completed but obviously not! Furious as this is money I really need - that's why I (tried to) put it onto the card rather than transferring to my bank account which takes 5 working days. GRRR!

This may take slightly longer at first as we smooth out any issue that may occur from the product going live to the public.

The message your recieving maybe a temporary system error or something as i have added my paypal top up card on my paypal account without any problems (and i have made a number of transactions so far using it as the funding source without any problems)

Edit: having read your post again... (and working on the assumption that you currently have no funds on your top up card)... you are basically saying you tried to use your card to purchase today even though you only sent the funds from paypal to the card today also.. therefore the funds wont have cleared on your topup card yet... which is why adding it to paypal wouldnt have been accepted because they take a £1 authorisation when u add a card which shows as a pending transaction but is never actually taken off your balance.

I have more bad news to add to this thread.

I will start in saying prior to getting this card my paypal experience has been very good and reliable. So this led me to putting a lot of trust in the card and I ordered one.

I did a topup about 6 hours ago, the idea was to buy something during today (thurs) later on after some sleep probably in the evening online. I then did some maintenance check on my credit card statement and I noticed the exact amount I topped up on my paypal card is not available on my credit card (nothing yet on the statement). I then login to paypal thinking they been idiots and taken of my card instead of my paypal balance but paypal shows they have taken off my balance.

So now I got 2 problems.

(a) After reading this thread will my money be on my card tommorow, if not it will be the last time I use the card.
(b) Have paypal double taken the money from both my credit card and paypal balance, even if the credit card gets refunded, I have lost the available funds during the duration of clearance. Taking it of the credit card defeats the purpose of using the paypal card in the first place, so again if this is the case it will be the last time I use the paypal card.

I find the reply to the other poster who was told it may take longer because its a new service unacceptable, paypal are pushing this hard with popups and such on their site as a production ready commercial product. It does seem paypal are managing transactions manually hence the variances and it been done in random times of the day rather than at midnight.
