Yes it is a GPRS phone (uses GPRS to connect the WAP browser) but in the proper spec "Connect to the Internet" is not listed while it is on other Nokias. Possibly to do with protocols not supported.
I would have to change the SIM every time I connect to the Internet - not keen. Eventually I'll get an Orange or an unlocked GPRS data card and will definitely use the Orange option then.0 -
seaniboy wrote:- you need DKU-5 cable, DKU-2 does not work with 3200.
- you can still connect the cable(DKu-2) and 3200 to your PC and go to conrol panel-system-harware-device manager and seek at the list of harware you have the "unknown device" with yellow question mark. Highlight it, right click with mouse and select uninstall.
Then you can start from clean table. Install DKU-5 cable driver from Nokia pages (and BTW, buy Nokia original I have seen so many people complaining about the non-genuine DKU-5's that be careful). Anyways, it may be that there no longer are DKU-5 available so then buy CA-42, it is the same thing (again be careful with the numbers, there is also a cable called CA-53, don't buy that).
If you buy CA-42, install ONLY PC Suite, because it also has driver for CA-42. With DKU-5 you need to install separately the DKU-5 driver.
Bit off topic but as you are a cable expert any idea why the cheap cable I bought on Ebay for my Siemens A65 doesn't work? Do you know what the CORRECT cable is that I should buy?
Cheers. Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.0 -
Thanks for posting those links last night, seaniboy. I browsed the Nokia site and found some similar stuff for 3g phones. I hope it might work, as it is cheaper to try out with a bluetooth dongle for the PC than getting a datacard. Now I'm wondering about how much the phone needs unlocking from 3's settings ...0

stabilo sorry I only know recent Nokia's as been using them for wap/internet for few years
found this though
Connect your mobile to the PC using one of the following cables compatible with your A65:- Data Cable DCA-500 (serial->serial) / Data Cable USB DCA-510 (USB->serial, use only COM port 1 to 9). Please note that the Data Cable USB DCA-540 (USB->USB) is NOT supported.

£1 per day unlimited GPRS internet from Orange is a big draw and it's on my list of things to do - get an Orange compatible GPRS datacard one day. A datacard is the only neat laptop solution IMHO. But I'll be keeping the £10 Ubinetics GSM card for now as it provides a cheap outlay solution (and I don't want to change my mobile - I change mobiles every 5 years). After all this is the Moneysaving forum as well as a tech one. Nokia 3510i is tempting but I would need a genuine Nokia cable at £20 to go with it.0

Well I discovered a new thing today - having acquired another discounted o2 SIM with credit left on it off Ebay - that some o2 SIMS work perfectly in a GSM laptop modem card, while others do not! In fact will not even dial out to make an ordinary call via the earpiece/mic that plugs into the GSM card. While that same SIM (is about 6 months old) works perfectly when inserted into an unlocked Nokia (thanx Browntoa).
I have noticed in other forums many people having trouble getting their Ubinetics card modems working and I now think it's often down to mysterious SIM compatibility issues.0 -
quite possible buglawton as o2 only allow wap access on payg, for full internet access they require you go contract, maybe that restriction is on dial up too?
2.5g (gprs) and 3g (high speed) sims may block access to a 2g service ie..dial up and are made unusable for that service, latter sims run on a diffrent voltage than GSM dial up cards permit
3-dont allow dial up at all
T-mobile charge you an extra 5p a min for dial up on top of your free mins or min rate for data calls
Orange - dont know about dial up but unlimited free calls to landlines via payg extras so that may work
Voda -havent a clue
Buglawton your unlocked 3200 should do dial up or gprs(network dependant), just set up a connection the usual way through windows and download Nokia PC suite as the drivers are in there, do you need a orange sim? also I have a spare Nokia data cable from a 7600 I keptI sold to a mate who lost thier 7600
who didnt need it would that be any good to you?If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0
