Internet Connection problems - can anyone help me please?

I have jsut tried repairing my connection, and is failed because it cannot renew my IP address. However the little yellow baloon tells me I am connected - this is so weird!

Hi,

There should be a load of numbers after each of those, could you tell us what they are, as it'll help us find the problem.
And the fact that the laptop is working over the router fine means its a problem with something your house, and nothing to do with Talktalk.

Firstly once connected type in ipconfig /renew

then ipconfig again, where it says

Ip address
Subent mask
default gateway

What do the values next to it say? to the right of the words?

You can copy things from a dos box (the black box) by right clicking and choosing Mark then draw a white box around the text you want to copy then just right click it. The white box will vanish and you can then paste that into here by right clicking and choosing paste (or edit from the menu and paste)

OK, jsut turned PC off and back on again - that didn't help!

Run the CMD prompt thing again and now it only has:

Ethernet adaptor local area connection
Connection specific DNS suffix

IP address: 192.168.16.5
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.16.1

Typed in ipconfig/renew and it says:

The operation failed as no adaptor is in the state permissible for this operation.

You're connected to the router with an ethernet cable, as opposed to wirelessly, yes?

Yes - the laptop is working wirelessly with the router as usual. I have connected the router to the PC with the problem.

It does sound like you aren't connected to the router via a network cable.

Note to iviv: Sounds like she might have a manual ip address assigned, I gotta go but I'll be back later to check on progress. can you take it from here?
