I work for SP doing the door to door sales . As of right now, I still have not been informed to stop selling the fixed price 2009 offer, although I reckon it is only a matter of time before I am told.
The amount of doors I have chapped over the past week and people have told me they are on a standard tariff with scottish gas are quite high.
I have told them of our product, but nearly all of them have refused to come on board even when the likes of this forum advises .
I have always said to the potential customers to go for a fixed rate if they can still get it, even if it isnt with ourselves.
many people have told me they are going to wait and see what happens. As far as I know the prices are going up unless people know differently!
I appreciate that your job involves knocking on doors, and you are only doing your job, but I am always cynical when people come knocking on my door to say the least. That's probably why many people are not signing up there and then. I know I wouldn't, no offense, even if you were offering free gas and electricity for a year.
eg. I had someone call around the other day "Good afternoon. I am from Sky TV. Are you currently Sky customers?". Alarm bells rang straight away. I said "If you are really from Sky, and you don't know if I am a customer or not, then surely your competence is to be called into question. Or could it be that you saw the dish and thought you'd try your luck?" Whenever someone goes to the trouble of knocking on my door, it has to be more for their benefit than for mine.
Sorry for the rant and being off topic:o0 -
no offence taken, I like to remain open minded! TBH I cannot be bothered with door salesmen at my door, but know I am one of them!!
I am only 2 weeks into this job and am still finding my feet. Most people have been fine with me, had a couple of idiots but that is to be expected.
I guess part of the nature of the job is getting people off guard.
People may think about changing suppliers, but many of them wont change because of the hassle etc. But when somebody is knocking they may well take up the offer there and then.0 -

I was taken to web page which said this would take up to 3 days to process. Their 2009 fixed rate terms and conditions are still available as PDF online and I have received an email saying they have received my application.
Does anyone know if this means they have to warrant my request ?
Many thanks for any feedback.
Well I have done EXACTLY the same today as today (Friday 1st Aug) is the first day I have been able to access my online account. It really has been "meltdown" on the website.
So anyway I was an existing online customer on Duel Fuel (Energy Saver 4) and I was able to select Fixed Energy. Got the email straight away (only as an existing customer) saying would be actioned within 3 days. Now with the workload they have at the mo I would expect it to take a bit longer - they also have to do a "manual" assessment of your monthly DD and this is then sent in the post.
But back to the question - I am 100% certain we will get the 2009 Fixed tariff which is due for withdrawal "any second now" even to existing customers. They will probably introduce a new one on Monday (very very likely that is the day they announce new prices).
But even if they do - you, me and no doubt thousands of others subscribed TODAY to the Fixed rate 2009 and that will be the deal they honour.
I must admit I was in two minds whether to go for it or not. The fixed rates are much higher than my current rates - indeed 30% higher for gas and 30-40% higher for electric in my area (Northern). So it was a gamble that prices will rise at this rate over the next 12 months.
But I too trust Martin and so went for it. I mean if THOUSANDS of people are doing it - there must be something in it.
Still KICKING myself didn't go for fixed prices 2011 before they were withdrawn a few months ago !!! Still that's life !
I am sure the price increases will be announced on a business day (Monday 4th?) and it looks like it was ***FINALLY*** pulled today. As I say today was the first time I could get on and that was at 6am this morning.0 -

You know it's that single aspect that bothers me most, but I did it anyway.
I was going to ride the storm but when all the capped rates were withdrawn I figured the energy companies were genuinely worried about the rates they were offering. Now Scottish Power are still signing up by the back door I suspect they still think there's a profit to be made out of such deals. They're not paying overtime to all their staff just so they can save us money.
I'm still ready to pull out using the cooling off period if my current tariff doesn't go up in the next two weeks.Reading this signature is a waste of time0 -

I must admit if you "see" thousands doing it, sometimes you think the herd mentality will lead to a fall.
However with energy prices I think we REALLY are doing it because some nasty rises are on the way....some this week/next week....some early next year.
Let the trend be your friend. All providers will follow BG's lead and put prices up in the next few days....some later than others but all will eventually. You only have to look at wholesale prices.
And then there is bound to be ANOTHER increase (Jan 2009) well before this fix ends (August 2009).
Even if wholesale prices fall, they have a lot of "catch up" to do.
When SP do announce the price rise next week (?) they will accompany it with a breakdown of the rising costs. I am sure at that point we will all be glad we fixed.......0 -
Hi, thanks Sunnyday :cheesy:
I called the 0141 number and asked for billing...got through immediately and asked for the capped offer. However, the girl told me it's not 'capped' but rather 'fixed'...the difference being that 'capped' can give the customer a reduced price if prices fall but 'fixed' doesn't....that's what she told me....so this offer is the fixed price energy 2009 and that's what I went for.
Kindest Regards :cheesy:0 -
Hi naav,
yes it is fixed rather than capped, glad you got it sorted:D
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
How the heck do you get thru' on the phone, after 2 days of trying to call, i am on redial as soon as 8.30 hits, even trying before that, but getting a closed message, i can understand SP being busy, but surely, bang on opening hours for the Customer Services, you should have a chance of at least getting put in a queue?0

I am an existing online SP customer and opted to switch to fixed 2009 yesterday morning about 6.00 am.
Logged on earlier today (no delays) and it is showing as swapped over.
Of course I am already set up on the system having been with SP for over 8 years but it looks like there is no backlog for existing customers.
But more importantly if I now tick to "Change me Service" it is still listing fixed 2009 in the list of available options.
So I would say fixed 2009 is STILL AVAILABLE to existing customers.
Just thought I'd let people know as people might think it has closed yesterday.0
