Scottish Power fixed rate to close TONIGHT

I'm moving house so I've been on the phone with utilities all day. I have been informed by a Scottish and Power move expert that their fixed rate deals end TONIGHT when their lines close. As the wait time on my calls to SP has averaged about 30 minutes, that means you had best get your skates on to grab this deal.

Also, the customer lines for British Gas are currently turned off while they "inform their staff of important information"--I think we can guess what THAT means!

can you still apply online via Quidco for Scottish Power?
  • You can, but when you do the fixed price tariff doesn't show up (or didn't for me, after a while when the connection to SP was crashing). By all means try it - might be a temporary blip. I had to sign up direct.

Just tried again - still giving me all the tariffs except the fixed price.

I was having a look at the T&Cs, but was unsure of the following. I know it will take a couple of weeks or so to move over, but is the price fixed from the date you elect to move or from the supply starts?

i.e. if they announce a price rise between signing up for the agreement and supply starting, do you still get the lower price?

Look at my post in this thread

I'm not sure anyone knows the answer to your question or indeed how you can prove that you've actually applied to switch.

Been on hold for 40 mins now. Is this the SP customer service I've heard so much about?

I'd decided to go for it as with the £72 cashback I could justify it but now it is not available via Quido I'll leave it. Even with the BG price rise the elec is still 25% cheaper for me, it's the gas that's the problem now !!!

Moncman, at least you are on hold - both SP's 0800 numbers are giving me engaged tone and website "quote and apply" is still failing after first or second page.

As I don't have a good gut feeling about the promised call back looks like I'll just have to sit tight & use less of the stuff, as next best cap is over 40% above my current direct debits. Where are the knitting needles ... woolly jumpers **are** the future!!

Am a SP customer so can log in to my account and change tariffs on-line ....theoretically. I completed the on-line process only to get this message:

"Sorry, we are unable to change your service package right now as we are processing a change to your payment details.
You may have requested this on our website or by telephone. Alternatively, we may be reassessing your monthly payment amount if you pay by Direct Debit. If so, you will receive notification of this by letter.
This may take up to two weeks, after which time you will be able to change your service package".

Er, no I haven't changed anything, nor asked for a change, and our monthly DD is in credit. This feels like an excuse to STOP me from switching to their Fixed Price tariff , and in 2 weeks it will be too late. I feel a complaint coming on...
