Just arranged to swap to NPower as they came out cheaper for dual fuel. However, on the statement their prices aren't much cheaper than my last bill, and the gas is more expensive, though mt last statement doesn't reflect BG' increase. Does anyone know the cost of gas after the increase. Also the monthly payment is much more than we pay now. I'm tempted to cancel within the cooling off period as theres no guarantee that they won't increase their prices too.0

BG gas prices effective 01 March 2006 are 3.441p/2.553p(for DD & and including VAT)* - the first price applies to 1143 kWh per quarter.
*Your bill normally shows the kWh price EXCLUDING VAT and adds it at end.
BG gas prices are normally the highest but their electricity is more competitive.0 -
Thanks Cardew that's better than NPower paying by direct debit. They charge;
3.165 and then 1.691 over 4572kwh pa
We're not heavy users and we'll be away for 5 weeks in the coldest period.
Their electric is 9.48 and then 4.95 over 182kw
Yet Npower came up as cheapest on the comparisom.
Cheers0 -
The gas prices are moreorless directly comparable. What you've failed to notice is that Cardew quotes the first tier rate per quarter whereas you've quoted it per annum.
So BG is 3.441/2.55 over 4572 kWh pa.
npower is 3.165/1.691 over 4572 kWh pa.
The only thing I would say is that npower split this 4572 in a slightly different way so it's not actually 1143 kWh per quarter. They bias it more towards the winter months.0 -
Thanks, there's also £60 pa discount for DD with Npower. What concerns me is whether Npower will put their price up within the next few months. How long are you tied in for. Is it normally 1 year?
Thanks again0 -
If you use a comparison website and you find that you should be switching to EDF as your dual fuel supplier, you could get 5000 nectar points which I think is worth £25.00 in places like Argos.

Your Nectar loyalty points earned will appear on each quarterly statement you receive.0 -
WARNING.
I've just been doing some price comparisons as I've just got the letter from Powergen detailing the new unit prices.
THE PRICES PER UNIT SHOWN ON BOTH ENERGYHELPLINE AND USWITCH SHOWN IN THE RESULTS IT GAVE ME ARE NOT THE SAME AS THE COMPANIES ARE ACTUALLY CHARGING.
For example, Energyhelpline gave British Gas Click Energy (Electricity) as 9.513 for the first 225 units and 6.701 for the rest when the actual price is over 16p for the first 225 and over 10p for the rest. Similar story with the EDF group results. I very nearly signed up as it made B.G a whopping 40% cheaper but it is only because I'm cynical that I asked the salesdroid on the phone what the unit prices were just to make sure.
CHECK THE UNIT PRICES BEING USED IN THE CALCULATIONS AND PHONE THE COMPANIES TO CHECK0 -
Well said.
I have been getting really annoyed about the discrepencies between comparison sites and the actual prices companies charge.
I'm surprised Martin hasn't commented on this.

I switched to Npower as they were the lowest rates but there deal included an annual bonus. Now they have put their prices up, presumably I cannot switch without losing the bonus as I have only been with them for 6 months. Is this true?0

Has anyone had problems with energyhelpline.com?
I am still waiting for my £12.50, I registered on the 2 Jan 2006 and I have e-mailed them twice with no reply and even a phone call , which I was told that it did take 2-3 months and they could not help me, I would just have to wait for it to go in my bank account.0
