Does the update mean that it's now safe to switch, do you know? I've been watching out for advice from Martin on this having heeded his advice to 'wait until you hear from me'.. Have received the new pricing from Scottish Power and wonder if all the providers have now published their prices.0

There's a special email going out tomorrow on this which will explain all - but basically - yes its time to switch!Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Scottish Power want to cap their prices until 2007, but they want to charge me £2.50 a month to do it.
Is this worth paying up for or just switching to another provider once the prices have increased.
I just don't know what to do, and I will hate paying the £2.50.
Cheers

Thank you Martin. I'll await your mail, however have meanwhile had a look at energy savers (can't remember the exact name) tables and see from those that British Gas would give me the biggest savings here in S Devon.. Considering the huge increase in their prices this autumn I wonder if these tables are bang up to date?
Any, I'll wait to see your mail . Thank you for this brilliant service Martin - you're a star!0 -
Thanks Martin. I was waiting for the "right time" notification.
The energyhelpline cashback site pays £12.50 per individual switch if you switch to different providers for gas and electricity, so hopefully some savings by moving from Powergen Energyonline to LondonEnergy for gas, and British Gas for electricity, plus £25 in the bank!0 -
Like everyone else, I recieved my notification from Martin, to look at changing your power user. Is the best way to go, capping or the present cheaper option of picking the biggest saving.
Also, am I the only one trying to fathom out the details of my combined gas & electric bill. I'm presently with Powergen, and have a combined bill, paid by DD. In the comparison questioneer, it asks for KWh or how much do pay anually. So I get all the bills out for perousal, after a lot of head scratching, I decide i cant work out the KWh, cause half way thru the year (looking from present to last year) the KWh reading dissappears to be replaced by units??
So I have just used the comparitor by using my £56 combined bill payement, halfing it and adding the £28 to the electricity & gas comparitor. Hoping this will give me a fair comparison for me. For the record Atlantic Enegy comes out the best with a £60/yr saving. All critisism gladly recieved :rolleyes:0 -
Now that it's a good idea to switch - and having checked it looks like it - what happens to any outstanding balance on my acount with my current provider? Do I need to pay off the balance.
I told you it was a silly question  (I would still like a reply if possible, please)
Cheerio

Like Father To Be I don't know whether to go with what Scottish Power are offering for capped rate until October 2007- does the premium you pay make sense it terms of likely future price hikes? Any advice most welcome0

Thanks for your advice on this and other matters. Before I change my supplier, could you please advise whether the price freezes are worthwhile.
Many thanks

I was waiting for the right time to switch too and thanks for your advice here, but you can make double the saving.
By doing a comparison through one of the "specialist" sites [like USwitch] I found that British Gas [surprisingly!] actually comes up near the top of the cheapest suppliers now they've ALL upped their prices. Capped prices too.
Even better, by signing up through QuidCo instead of through the £12 - £12.50 you quoted as the top two, I'll receive £25 for choosing dual fuel with BG. Otherwise, it's £15 for either or each. A bigger saving by using the cashback site route for me, as I've now done this.
Oh and the price freeze options. They're okay but if you change supplier again before a certain amount of time [I think it's within a year], they'll charge you a small fee [£20 in BG's case].
I was with Powergen by the way and they were low down on the list, especially for electricity!
Now it's wait until the next price rise war before I change again.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0
