How are you supposed to compare prices when all the sites are giving out of date information?

I have tried today and all the best prices quoted have been increased according to UK Power price update page, ie Npower, London Energy, SSE, Atlantic, so the figures quoted are incorrect.

Does anyone know how long it takes before the sites actually give you correct information?

    Its all very confusing.

  • Not sure if this is of use to anyone, but since I switched from Powergen, they've phoned almost every day, offering discounts to not switch; I noticed that they even have a special number for people thinking of leaving them.

If anyone's with Powergen (or anyone else - I doubt only they're doing it) and doesn't want to leave, maybe worth a call to see what they'll gove you to remain 'loyal'.
  • Help !
Cant' decide whether to go for 'capped' rates with British Gas or not and the deadline for making a decision is fast approaching, freezing it to 2010.
Can anyone help us to make a firm decision as we're dithering !!
    Thanks
    Andy

I wouldn't. The price freeze means that your prices won't go up but neither will they come down. You may be stuck in an artificially high tariff.

Its rather like asking "what do you fancy in the 2:30 at Kempton".

If it does turn out to be a bad 'bet', the penalty for 'buying out' is not horrific.
  • Hi Has anyone used https://www.which.co.uk/switch ??
I've tried it and it shows me a saving of £191.90 with NPower. Other comparison sites are much less than that. Must be good reliable site musn't it since it's Which? the consumer champion. Don't know if it includes the latest price increases though. Any thoughts anyone ?

I have used simplyswitch to switch gas and electric suppliers. Does anyone know when/how I get my cashback? EMails to support@simplyswitch have been ignored.

    Thanks in advance
  • I used UK Power to switch from Powergen to B/Gas. £12 cashback and 25% saving. NB 1kwh = 1 unit.

Q: I am not on mains gas, but have underground LPG storage tank supplied by Calor. Is their a comparison site for such an instance?

Somebody pls reply as I hate Calor, crap service and I know there ripping me off!

    Ciao for now

I have just received a notice from Scottish Power that they are upping my payments from £72. to £89! There has been no difference in our useage over the last few years, if anything, it has gone down. This seems an extremely high increase per month. If I change supplier at this time will I face similar large increases from new supplier (bearing in mind the alleged shortage of gas and expected cold winter)?

help iam over 55 and have just recvd an offer from age concern sponsored by powergen to reduce my bills. presently iam with british gas for gas & electricity and want to switch. anybody else had something like this. any advice?
Try https://www.staywarm.co.uk first, which is also a deal for over 60's. I think this is also Powergen but doesn't do any harm to compare. You won't get the best prices for these deals, but they are fixed for a year so you get peace of mind. A friend of mine has just gone to Staywarm and based on the details she gave over the telephone (freephone number) to Staywarm, her bills have gone down by £25 per month. Otherwise check prices on enrgyhelpline or similar as mentioned on these threads and get a comparison.
