  • Hello folks, sorry to barge in and apologies if this has been answered in the previous 37 pages (busy forum, wow, nice one) but can anyone help me!!!

I have an archaic O2 sim only contract dating back to 'Genie' which is £10 a month for 50 mins to O2 or landlines off-peak (7-7) and unlimited free texts, no wap, data, internet ect. I dont use my phone at all as my handset is broken.

I've fallen in love with the i-phone and have decided i really out to get a new handset.

Can i buy an i-phone and use my old genie sim in it- this would save me loads compared to buying a new i-phione and tarif? But would it work for internet and so on and so forth. Honestly i am out of my depth, at risk of getting utterly ripped off! Help!!!
  • yes craigpugh you can buy an iphone on pay and go and just pop your current pay monthly sim into it, but im afraid internet and MMS will very likely be a no no, as your ancient tarrif will not be compatible with these services (basically they didn't exsist when that tarrif was created). You MAY need a 3G sim card too, not to get 3G internet service,as I said, internet isn't an option, just that your old old SIM may not recognise service in the iphone. As for getting an iphone on your contract, again, no chance, you would need to upgrade to an iphone tarrif and commit for a minimum of 18 months. Sorry.

  • Apple have set the charges for iPhones and at present will not allow networks to reduce or change them. You might be able to negotiate additional extras from your supplier but don't hold out much hope for basic tarriff reductions. :(

I feel in love with the iPhone so went to my local Orange store and managed to get walk out with an iPhone 3G :j on £30/month contract with 150 mins & 250 texts plus "unlimited" internet...as far as I know this is the cheapest around...

I didn't see the point in getting the 3GS model...

Very happy with the iPhone, great bit of kit and so user-friendly! :rotfl:
  • hi everyone,

Could someone please tell me if they know are tmobile doing the iphone 3gs ? I have been with them about 10 years im on the flex 40 plan which is £225 of mix of calls and texts a month, I can upgrade on the 1st dec and wanted to get an iphone, she offered me contract still on the flex 40 plan with a discount of about £37.50 for the £225 plus unlimited internet use, I think this was prob for 24 months to get the phone free, but she said they only did the 3g, im sure ive read on here someone got offered the 3gs, so does anyone know ? ALso do you think this is a good deal im not really sure how many min are included in £225.00 and I do use my phone quite a lot, my bills ususally come in at about £40-£50 a month, I was hoping to reduce that, does anyone have any ideas ??
    thanks for your help

T-Mobile are doing the iPhone for customers who are at end of their contract, however, I think it's a bit of a wait as they're ordering them in.
  • Thinking of going on O2 and buying the 3GS phone on PAYG. However Im concerned about how much it is going to cost after the initial 12 months: the website say the following:

When you buy a new iPhone from us, we'll give you 12 months of unlimited* web and Wi-Fi. It's called the O2 Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On, and you'll be able to keep it at the end of the 12 months for £10 a month if you like. We'll let you know when it's time.

So does that mean its going to cost me £10 a month and then another £15 to top up to get free texts???? Sounds very costly to me?

    Anyway around this?
  • Hi jackie123jackie123, no, it wont. If you top up £10, you can get:

Unlimited web and wifi for 12 months (02 will then CHARGE you £10 a month for it if you do not opt out when they text you in 11 months to warn you)

If you register for it before the end of Jan, go on the textandweb tarrif and you will get unlimited texts, yes, unlimited. (This will revert to 300 texts if you opt in AFTER the end of Jan mind you, if you opt in before, you keep the £10 unlimited texts deal) Plus, if you top up £15, you get unlimited web too, so in 12 months when your free web and wifi runs out, opt out, as you can get free web if you top up £15 then, you're already on that deal see!

You keep your £10 as calling credit too. And, if most of your mates or family are on 02, you can pay for the 02 your numbers bolt on, £5,this will come off your credit each month, and you get 1000 units to use as mins or text, a bit like TMobile flext, to your 10 favourite 02 numbers, but seeing as your texts would be unlimited to anyone on textandweb anyway, you effectively get 1000 02-02 mins for a fiver, and still have £5 credit left too!
