Whats faster on an Android phone? I have used a few and none are as fast as my 3GS.
Plus there are a lot more apps on the iPhone.
In general use the Android phones I have seen are quicker than the iPhone 3GS. Address book opens faster, opening emails is faster etc. You just don't get those little pauses you get on the iPhone.
As for apps, sure there are less but does anyone really care that there are 85,000 iPhone apps? I mean, how many do you have installed, 100? That's 0.1%. The reality is 99% of apps are rubbish.
Android has all the major bases well covered for apps. They are also more permissive, allowing apps that Apple bans. Android is also tied in to Google web apps a lot more closely, and web browser performance (especially Javascript) is much better anyway. Web apps have the advantage of not needing to do any kind of syncing to keep email/contacts/calendars/docs/etc consistent between your PC and phone.
Personally I am going to wait for the Motorola Android phones. Even faster processor and a 7MP camera...0 -

I'd love to agree with you but I can't.
I don't have an Iphone but having spent the last month trying to decide what phone I am going to get (i.e. an Android handset or a 3GS) the one thing I have noticed is how much quicker the 3GS is than other phones, particularly over the Hero and the Magic.
I still cant bring myself to buy a 3GS though and am still on the look out for a new phone. THe 3GS is just too much money.
I'm not slating Android as I think it will evolve to be a decent OS, its just to me the Iphone OS is much more polished and faster.0 -

Apple online store via Quidco, PAYG models, so no contract commitment. It will come with the latest software so can't currently be unlocked if you are wanting to use it on another network.0 -

Have to disagree too - A friend has the latest HTC Android phone (cant remember what its called) and although its a nice looking phone its not as quick at doing all of the things you mentioned as my 3GS. Have you seen a 3GS in use? The 3G did suffer from a few pauses but the 3GS doesn't.0 -
I just disagree with anything that doesnt have Windows XP SP2 installed on it :P0

Maybe you are looking at the old version of the OS. The latest release is Cupcake, and it's fast. There are some videos on YouTube but they don't really do it justice.
Also keep in mind that there are many phones that run Android, so it's no good comparing the lowest spec one to the 3GS.
The Android browser will support Flash soon, so you can watch videos on more than just YouTube. Speaking of YT, watch how long it takes to open a video and start playing it on a HTC Hero or Motorola DEXT - it's pretty much instant, unlike the 3GS.
Don't forget the choice of slide out or on-screen keyboards, the 5MP camera, standard micro USB connector for sync/charge, MicroSD card slot for unlimited and cheap expansion plus all the other nice stuff on the DEXT.
Plus, you don't look like a prat every time you take it out0 -

My brother has an iphone 3GS and OH has a HTC hero. I'd have to agree that HTC hero does seem to run faster than iphone on many similar applications and the bettery life is again must longer too. However, iphone has so much more applications than android phones at the moment although the advantage may be changed in the future. Still, iphone looks very flashy unlike HTC hero and I'd have to say once an apple fan, always an apple fan.
