    has anyone had any luck in getting o2 to offer anything off the standard tariffs/ iphone price when an upgrade is due? My contract is due for renewal in 4 days and wondered if I had any bargaining power with the retentions dept.

    None at all.

    The iphone tariffs were never discounted and since 1st June almost nothing in the way of retention deals.

    Retentions said the iphone packages were non negotiable and wern't budging.
    I've bought myself a 16gb 3Gs and have got a simplicity tariff

    x

    Quidco to date = £1224 cashback
  • Just to warn anyone trying to buy the 16GB from mobiles.co.uk, they currently show in stock on their website but are not expecting any in until next week.
    I tried ordering one on 9th July to be told they were expecting stock the next day (Friday) and it would be despatched then. After chasing them several times they've now admitted they are out of stock.
    They seem to of given up replying since being accused of misleading customers. :mad:

    I have been trying to phone mobiles.co.uk for 2 days as my iphone has still not turned up, despite me ordering it last week and getting an email on Friday to say it had been dispatched.

    It didn't arrive, but they did take the money from my account on Monday.

    I tried to phone them last night and am on the phone to them now - both times I have been on hold for more than 20 minutes. I think if I ever get through to them I will cancel the order - they seem to be a right bunch of cowboys and they don't deserve my business, regardless of the £60 quidco deal.

    I will just go back to CPW-O2, who my current contract is with, and go for an upgrade instead.

    I ordered mine from mobiles.co.uk and recieved it fine next day, have had to put a ticket in with quidco for the 60 quid which is still pending at the mo
  • I'm also thinking about doing this too....it works out at roughly £200 cheaper to buy the iphone 3Gs and get an O2 simplicity SIM....(£440 + £20pm x 12mnths=£240 total=£680)
    That would give 600mins, 500 texts and a bolt on so could get unlimited internet
    I'm going through retentions so hopefully will be able to get a better deal.

    Contract iphone is only the 3G (please tell me if i'm wrong) and a 24mnth contract if you want it free....£35pm x 24= £840

    For the 3Gs contract, again on 24mnths is £87.11 to buy on top and then £35pm which is £937.11
    BUT if you go through QUIDCO and use mobiles.co.uk there is £60 cashback on all iphone 3Gs bought with a contract.

    I'm confused with the whole thing to be honest and don't know what to buy....:confused:

    Orange have offered me a good package for £25pm 600mins, 500texts, unlimited interent, free landline calls on most of their phones the ones i was looking at were iphone equivilents:
    LG arena, LG GT505 and the Samsung Preston K5600, however reading into all the reviews and customer feedback there seems to be problems with them all!
    Preston = no wifi
    Arena= don't buy on orange as they have removed GPS maps and other stuff and replaced with their own software :confused:

    Seems the iphone ticks all boxes but just don't know which is the best way of buying it!

    Do Sim only Tariff's give you what you need to use the iphone?

    xx

    I might be missing something but you are comparing a 12 month (simplicity) contract with a 24month contract. This is my thinking so far:

    I get £44p/m contract 3GS Iphone on 24 month contract. I drop it to £34 per month after 9months (If they have a cheaper tariff available then I would do it) So
    £44 x 9 = £396
    then 15 x £34= £510
    total = £906

    If I keep my simplicity its £440
    then 24 x £20 = £480
    Total = £920

    I think someone mentioned earlier the main difference is you can cancel simplicity with 1 months notice. If I fork out for an Iphone it will be lasting me at least 2 years I would hope!

    Can anyone please explain why Carphone Warehouse O2 (with whom I have my old contract) want to know my new iPhone's IMEI before they can send me the PAC code?

    Apparently if I can give them my NEW iphone's IMEI it will speed up the number porting process. Is this true or am I being scammed?

    As far as I know you don't need an IMEI to port a phone number - it is not tied to a particular handset. If you were asked for your SIM card number it might be reasonable, however I did my last PAC transfer (T-Mobile to ASDA) with neither.

    My guess is they are using it to identify stolen phones. (or at least deter people from buying them etc etc) ..or maybe they are trying to identify what phone you have moved to for market research purposes.
    ..I'm good at conspiracy theories!!

    They don't need it to port your number.. as the last person said.
