  • Hi I would like to get a iphone would be happy with a 3gs 8gb I am in contract with orange until nov but i can upgrade with them now, would I be better off getting a i phone second hand or pay monthly and putting my sim card in, or would I be able to go onto a sim only with them....dont really understand all these different deals!!

Or would I be better just waiting til november and shopping around although there doesnt seem to be much difference in the deals any way apart from using cash back sites.

Also does anyone know if I will get a better deal by upgrading via a independant phone shop instead of going through orange.

    Thanks in advance

As im not a huge tech user with mobiles, i was in fact tempted by the iPhone. I couldn't justify the outlay for the iPhone 4 so i looked at the previous models. 3GS has apparently had problems with software updates so i looked at the 3G as that seemed to fit my budget better.

The wife told me to look at some refurbished units as she her last handset was a refurbished one & she was really pleased with the quality. So after a good nights googling i bought one from this site: The Skipping Hippo. It's by far the cheapest i found without going through the far east sellers on fleabay! Definitely worth a look if you like a bargain & like me just looking to dip your toe into the iPhone world.

The wife was definitely right (when is she never?!) in the quality of the phone & i'm really impressed with all the apps I can get for it! Ordered it on Monday & had it yesterday morning!

One problem i've found is trying to get compatible bluetooth headsets for the car. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Hi there

Type "iphone bluetooth headset" into eBay and you should get over 400 results. Change it to "iphone stereo bluetooth headset" and you'll get about 50.

To be honest, I'd look for a stereo bluetooth headset that you can plug your own headphones into.

  • The cheapest way to get hold of a iphone 4 is make one out of a minibox of cereals. Hear me out, you see the reception will probably be better on the cereal box than the iphone 4.

    Lol....

Thanks for pointing out the obvious ;)

I was after suggestions of brands to go about. I'm not a huge fan of Ebay either! Could you recommend any on that Skipping Hippo website?

Mmm £595 for 32GB, Apple store = £599 and already unlocked!

If O2 will unlock these add £15 to the price = £610
  • Hello

Wondered if any of you very knowledgable people could give me some advice on the best iphone handset and deal for my situation? My pay monthly contract with Orange runs out in a week. I want a 3GS iphone and would be happy with a 8GB. Of course I'd love a better spec iphone but money is tight at the moment. I use about 250mins and 300 texts per month.

The big BUT is that I'm going away for 4/5 months in January to a far-flung destination. So I thought it might work out cheaper if I bought a handset and found a good PAYG or Sim only deal so I'm not wasting money paying for a contract when I'm not in the country. However, it's a minefield out there. I've spent a couple of hours researching and I'm more confused than when I started. Any advice very gratefully received!

The up-front cost is TERRIBLE!!! For £25 a month and an up front cost of half that, Three would give you everything else but twice the minutes!
