The up-front cost is TERRIBLE!!! For £25 a month and an up front cost of half that, Three would give you everything else but twice the minutes!

Reception with Three is not the best in our area so that's a no no.

I just noticed this http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-iphone so it can't be that bad.

I agree the initial upfront price is quite high but they seem to sell for £300+ on the auction sites.

Does anyone know if O2 retentions are offering any good deals on reconditioned 3GS's?

My contract finished a couple of months ago on my Samsung Tocco, but switched to PAYG as I was happy with my handset and wanted to save some cash for a while.

With epic timing, my Tocco has now bitten the dust (smashed into a wall by mistake in the front pocket of a holdall) so I either have to get a cheap crappy handset and keep my PAYG sim, or take out a new contract - ideally if I'm taking out a new contract I'd like to get the best phone and deal I can get within my budget, so thought about a 3GS.

    Cheers.
  • Hi

First post here, so hi to all.

I have been with O2 for 3 years now, at the end of my last contract (18 months ago) i managed to negotiate a really great deal with the retentions team, dropping my £35/month bill to £19.99 without losing any of my contratc minutes/texts etc and they sent me a free Samsung Tocco Ultra.

This contract is now up and im due to an upgrade. I quite fancy an iPhone but im unsure what to do really.

I already have a 32gb ipod touch (albeit a 1st gen) which i use for my music etc so i could possibley plump for a 3gs of lesser size.

I definately dont have the cash or the inclination to pay an up front fee for a phone, but would be willing to go to maybe a £30/month contract if it meant getting my hands on a 3gs or better.

Id like to stay with O2, get good signal and have had great customer service over the years, all my family are on O2.

But, i would walk to a different provider if the deal was right.

Bit of a ramble, sorry, but can anyone offer any advice? I can get my upgrade in September so im starting to look around at deals now. I got the impression from the shop assistant in the O2 store that i would get only a standard tariff when i upgrade.

    cheers in advance

As im not a huge tech user with mobiles, i was in fact tempted by the iPhone. I couldn't justify the outlay for the iPhone 4 so i looked at the previous models. 3GS has apparently had problems with software updates so i looked at the 3G as that seemed to fit my budget better.

The wife told me to look at some refurbished units as she her last handset was a refurbished one & she was really pleased with the quality. So after a good nights googling i bought one from this site: The Skipping Hippo. It's by far the cheapest i found without going through the far east sellers on fleabay! Definitely worth a look if you like a bargain & like me just looking to dip your toe into the iPhone world.

The wife was definitely right (when is she never?!) in the quality of the phone & i'm really impressed with all the apps I can get for it! Ordered it on Monday & had it yesterday morning!

One problem i've found is trying to get compatible bluetooth headsets for the car. Anyone got any suggestions?

Any recommendations for compatible bluetooth headsets at all?
  • Hi Daddyp and welcome.

O2 often offer a reconditioned 3GS for a low price. Essentially, it's a brand new phone that's been sent to someone else and returned within the 14 day cooling off period. They wipe it, make sure there are no scratches or marks on it and then flog it with the same guarantee and warranty as a new phone, but for less. Speak to O2 Retentions and see whether they can offer you a reconditioned 16Gb 3GS.

Alterntaively, Three will give you the 8Gb 3GS for £30 with an up-front charge of just £29 (clicky).

Yes. Read my response to you from before.
    Hi there

Type "iphone bluetooth headset" into eBay and you should get over 400 results. Change it to "iphone stereo bluetooth headset" and you'll get about 50.

To be honest, I'd look for a stereo bluetooth headset that you can plug your own headphones into.

If you don't like my advice, don't expect me to go trawling through another website for you. Do you own leg work.

I've used both the Nokia BH214 and the Sony Ericsson MH100 stereo BT headsets with my iPhone, and they both work without any problems.
