So, I have sky broadband at home. Does that mean it would allow me to use my signal for my iphone and this would be classed as wifi?
As it's sky, I'm assuming to to get access to openzone I would need to go back to BT (something I don't really want to do) although I'm sure sky use BT's phoneline (maybe irrelevant)
It does sound really good though that you can conect via other peoples openzones though. I assume then that you won't need the network key?
Hi libbyjade,
When you use your iPhone to connect to the internet through your Sky Broadband's WiFi connection you are completely bypassing your mobile company's network. It is just like connecting a regular computer to your home broadband.
If you are with O2 you can connect to the internet through BT OpenZone and The Cloud when you are away from home. These services are often available in restaurants/pubs/garden centres as well as from anyone who uses BT Internet for their own home broadband connection.
As I understand it you connect to the wireless network (called BTOpenZone or TheCloud), open Safari and get redirected to a page requesting your O2 telephone number which it verifies and then allows you access0 -
Lets be fair if you have an iPhone 4 you are probably going to keep it for two years at least.
If you look at your Tesco and 3 deals they look like Tesco walks all over 3 but does it?
If you look over 24 months the actual cost is nearer the same. Let me explain
TESCO
Phone is 349, then 12 months at £20 then another 12 months at £15 (on their sim only) gives you a total of £769
THREE
Phone is 99 then 24 months at £30 is a total of £819
So over two years there is 40 quid in it or £1.66 a month! Now many may prefer that as they can get an iPhone 4 for an outlay of 99 quid rather than 349
So its like a mortgage, you need to show the cost over 12, 18 and 24 monthsSelf confessed Florida expertwith over 320 trips there!

just seen a micro sim cutter on amazon.. useful if you dont have a contract. if you're really apple mad and have an ipad it works in that too..
i'm not sure if im gonna even get the ip4 myself  went to see one in the shop and i was, well, underwhelmed.0 -
I have seen that 3 Mobile seem to offer the best deals but I am put off by the bad reputation that they have with signal and customer services. I live in Chester and work in Manchester is the signal really that bad as I wouldn't want to tie in to a contract for a phone I can't use.0

I totally agree - the MSE chart is not comparing like with like EXCEPT when it comes to the monthly cost - which does show 3 as being only £34pm which is around a tenner cheaper than everyone else.
I'm with 3 at the moment, can't fault them for coverage and service here in SW Scotland; registered with them for an iphone and have got a text saying I'm eligible for upgrade on 19th July. I've got a Nokia E71 at the moment which if I recycle it will earn me £94 - so upgrading will only cost me £5 for the handset.0 -
For me, Three 24 month contract looks like the best deal as I am likely to keep the phone that long and the additional £20 per month for the extra year on top of the Tesco contract seems reasonable value. As I'm already a Three customer, I guess there's no way of getting additional cashback (Quidco etc either from three or third party) for an upgrade? (Unless I do some number porting fiddling which got a bit tricky last time I did it).
The Quidco site is now saying no cashback for IPhone4 anyway! His money is twice tainted: taint yours and taint mine - Mark Twain0 -
I'm with 02 and now out of contract. I wanted the iphone 4 but I think they're too dear.
I've even enquired about the 32gb 3gs reconditioned ones, but they've never got any in stock. I think I'm getting fobbed off.
What's the score if you request your pac code? Does this mean you definitely leave 02 and therefore can't stay with them?
O2 are just not @rsed any more about keeping hold of existing customers, so if there are no deals to keep me - I'm off!
thanks
If you don't mind the white model, Three have the following deal
£129 handset
£25 per month for 24 months
500 voice mins
5000 texts
5000 3 to 3 voice minutes
1GB data
They had them in my local store on Sunday, I opted for the 8GB Black at the same price. Wished I had gone for white as I could have just got a cover/skin for it. Doh0 -
I've been with 02 for years and didn't have a clue about this! I once tried to connect to BT Openzone and it asked for a password; could anyone tell me how to get round this please??? And thanks a million for the info...Oscar_The_Grouch wrote: »The other thing to remember is that O2 gives you free access to BT Openzone. For anyone that doesn't know, the BT Home Hub transmits a separate wi-fi signal called "Openzone". This allows BT or O2 phone users (with the wi-fi add on) to connect to the internet through the Home Hub for free.
The new Home Hub is "n" rated so transmits the signal over a much greater area than "g" rated routers. I can get just as good a signal from my neighbour's Openzone as I can from my own router!!
The benefit of this is that if you are in a residential area with no hot spots, you will often be able to find someones Openzone signal and connect to wi-fi rather than 3g. It costs the other person nothing for you to use the signal and as it's not connected to their network (it's a completely separate signal), there's no risk to you.0 -

I'm pretty sure that's a typo on three's behalf, as they never made an 8gb 3gs iphone i dont think. If you check, I bet you have the 16/32gb.0 -

8GB 3GS was introduced when they introduced the iPhone 4, Apple's not so subtle way of getting people who want a decent storage capacity pay the extra for the iP4.0
