It'll be interesting to see the handset prices for the UK. The prices in the US are US$199 and US$299 respectively, and a new 3GS is only US$99 !!!

I somehow doubt they'll be that cheap even if it was pounds for dollars. Great product however the prices are a bit of a rip off in the UK.

For the nth time, those are the prices including a 24 month AT&T contract. The prices without a contract are somewhat comparable ($699 for 32GB I think).

No one reads the botton line it seems on the apple website:
For those who are not eligible for an early upgrade or who wish to buy iPhone as a gift, the prices are $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB).

I have been holding off getting an iphone waiting for prices to drop after the release of the new 4 model,

I dont have an iphone at present but was considering signing up to the tesco 12 month deal for £35/per month and paying £200 for a 16gb 3gs.

I have a monthly mobile deal with virgin for about £10 per month, 100 mins and texts but will probably give that to other half until it goes out of contract next march.

Do you think tesco will be dropping their prices soon in line with the release of the new model, I am happy to pay £35 per month, its more the upfront handset cost I was wanting to save on.

Love this thread BTW, have been a long time lurker!!

I have been an O2 (Via CarPhoneWhouse) customer for many years and called last week to upgrade to i-phone from a SIM only cashback deal whick I am currently am on. The joker from CPW quoted me £45 per month and harped on about being able to downgrade a fiver a month after 9months like it was magic. After hanging up unimpressed I received a call after a few days to discuss other options and other smartphones - not interested. She said she would call me back after 4G is out as I said i was waiting for price drop.

If anyone else has experience in getting cheap refurbished 3GS in last week/coming weeks plz post as want to make sure good deal. I plan on calling back in next few days to blag them (via disconnection team) and will let u know how get on.

Further to my earlier post, CPW beat me to it. Had a phone call today 1st offer - £35 per month, 3GS iPhone £89, 2nd offer - £45 per month and free 3GS. Too expensive.

Enquired as to refurbished iPhones 'as my friend has recieved a good offer' but front line sales team seem to have little ability to cut a deal, despite going to speak to her 'manager' 4 times during the call and me threatening to disconnect soon if better offer not on table.

3rd offer - Free Refurb 3G only £25 per mth, 300mins, unlimited wifi. 4th offer - £25 per mth, 300mins, lump sum cash back £150 on inception and can purchase 3GS 8GB for £450 (less £150 cash back). :undecided

I said I would look at competitors and she arranged call back Monday evening. Anyone got an opinion to share on the 4th offer? I figure buy cost of 3GS elsewhere is going to drop with 4G released? Next stage - disconnections... wish me luck!;)

You got a source where you seen this price? I'm interested to see if this is phone only in the States or whether you are locked into contract - as per above post, i might be looking at buying 3GS outright and USA prices are good gauge to use.

    Thanks.

    Yes
O2 SpUnlocked mine for £10. I use it on Vodafone £15 unlimited tariff.

depending on your firmware and substrate you may be able to use tools from the dev-team.
