Thanks for all the supportive comments everyone!
I phoned O2 retentions again today and got through to a very helpful chap who offered me a great deal on a 32GB recon iphone for £40 pm. That was a bit outside my price range so I asked for a deal on the 16GB recon iphone - unfortunately they are out of stock of them at the mo!
He suggested phoning back Mon/Tues, so I'll try that and let you know how I get on - it really does depend on who you speak to!0 -
can i just mention, i have contents insurance with Asda, ive phoned them and asked if my iphone is covered for loss or theft on my contents insurance, and they say yes it is... both in and out of the home... no extra cost...

How true, I can't wait for the new iPhone, there will be a deluge of cheap second hand 3GS phones on the market and dealers selling new 3GS phones cheap, especialy when you consider the next software update will do the same as the 4 bar the physical bits.
Although the 3gs will run the os 4.0, one will defenitley miss out the biggest ever overhaul of iphone hardware in 3 years.
So far they kept almost the same shell with minor modifications but this time around its going to be
Brand new shell - all aluminium mack book stype unibodi kinda design
Brilliant IPS (ipad style) display with more powerful touch screen with 640x960 resolution -Industry's first - and it will be thinnest lcd to make room for a bigger better battery.
Apples own customised A4 processor expected to run twice as fast compared to 3gs - that means better multi tasking and response time.
A4 processor expected to run 1ghz or more - the cpu is tweaked by apple to run much more efficiently which means more battery time.
A4 processor has got a better graphics capability for better gaming.
And the biggest surprise of all - apple will keep the same pricing or may even cut down the pricing to rip off competition.
The latter seems to be the more likely scenario as apple is preparing an unprecedented volume of around 4m phones just to ship out in June alone. and a staggering 24m units by December. Which only points to one direction a price cut for the phone.
So there are more reasons to get the new hardware than just the OS 4.0....0 -

I really do hope so as the price is the only thing currently putting me off an Iphone 3GS or 4G.0 -

Its made of flat black plastic not aluminium. and its not Unibody. Its like the old one, except flat and no chrome round the edges.0 -

I'm nearing the end of an 18mth contract now with Orange and can upgrade to the iphone now. My contract officially ends on the 26/6. I want to upgrade to an iphone and so am hoping that the new v4 iphone will be out by then and so the prices of the 32gb will come right down.
Not been through Orange retentions yet as will wait til the 26th June but my account says I can get the 32gb for £99.00 on a 24mth contract at £45pm.
I'm shopping around and so hope if I can get a better deal with o2 then, orange retentions will match it.0 -
Hi Guys,
Been checking this thread on the run up to my contract ending today, Have been with o2 for 10 years and 18 months ago got a £35/month contract for £20/month and free sony ericsson, which at the time was fab. This time I wanted the iphone 3gs so went through to retentions and the woman was most unhelpful, didnt even entertain the idea of giving me a discount for loyalty as apparently i didnt spend enought over the year to be a 'valued customer' and id already had a discount on my previous contract, she even sent me my PAC code without any hesitation when I said I wanted to leave! So much for keeping customers....
Anyway, I called again later and went through to retentions to a lovely lady who apologised for the rudeness of the previous one and I have ended up with....
18 month contract
£30/month
300 mins
free texts/internet
£179 for 3GS 16GB
I am more than happy with this as dont use many minutes but needed more than the 100 they were offering,
It pays to call back as all the advisors seem to have different rules and from my perspective if you just want the iphone for the apps and the fun side of it then dont wait for the 4.0 as essentially it wont be any different,
Looking forward to getting my phone on Monday!!
Thanks to you all for your posts, theyve been a great help!:T

I just can't imagine people are still paying £179 for 3GS iphone and thinking that iphone 4g won't be any diffferent, please see my earlier post if you want to get yourself updated.0 -
So what you are saying is it will have everything I don't realy care about or need, I will stick to buying one of the 3gs which has all I need cheap thanks and let the sheep buy the new one
If you want to get stuck in the past, I won't blame you mate, but the whole point of that post was to show the difference between 3gs and 4g. If you are not getting it, good luck but don't blame me or blame the folks who are holding it for the new phone.0
