  • Hi everyone

I'm a newbie at these forums, but have found this thread very helpful - thanks to all the contributors!

I was hoping to get a good deal on an iphone but unfortunately I've not had a great experience with O2 today - I just phoned the retentions department and didn't exactly have the conversation I was hoping to have!

I'm on the 02 simplicity £20 pm for 800 mins & free weekends.
I just slipped out of my 12 month contract 1 month ago - now on a rolling monthly contract.

I phoned up retentions in the hope of getting an upgrade to an iPhone : I've been a customer with 02 for 10 years and was hoping they could cut me a good deal

I was thinking of going up to the £35 mark and was happy to take a refurb, esp if they could include the sort of deal kusgirl got above which was
    free 16gb 3gs
    800 mins
    free weekends
    unlimited texts and data
    18 month cntract
    £37pm

Instead they offered the tariffs that are on the website for any new customer - no mention of refurbs or any movement on the website tariffs. I told them I would go to Tesco mobile for their £35 month - so the woman at retentions gave me my PAC code!!

I expected them to call my bluff and offer me something - maybe I should go to Tesco after all!

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to express my thanks to everyone here as without you I am sure I wouldn't have got the deal I was after!

I have only been with o2 for just over a year and only on a £20 sim only contract so wasn't expecting a huge loyalty discount! But after calling up and quoting this forum the lady on retentions offered me a free refurb 3G S 16GB handset, 500 mins, unlimited texts and web for £27 for a 24 month contract. I plumped for the same deal but for 18 months at £32 a month so am very pleased! :j

So big thanks from me!

To be honest I would prob try again tomorrow and ask to be put straight through to retentions department & see if its someone different one the phone.

I find in my experiences with o2 that it just depends who you speak to.
I rang this in December when thinking of getting the HTC HD2 and rang each day for a few days and each day I got offered a different offer.
I think they are unprofessional in that way one person says one thing and someone else another but i have found it to be true in my situation I have also been with o2 for many years and never felt like i have been wanted as a customer up until last week when i spoke to a lovely advisor in retentions when I got my iphone.

If I were you i'd give it just one last try in a day or two. good luck!

  • Dear All,

I have a Nokia N85, and desperately want an iphone, not need!!

My Contract ends in Feb 2011, and have an option to upgrade to whatever iPhone it is in November, what would MSE savers do?

I pay at the min, £30 for 600mins unltd text and Orange Numbers (very useful)

    Rgds

Rafaranter, I had the same experience with o2, called retentions and got a very unhelpfull chap who told me I'd need to have a £40 pm contract to get the HTC desire as my spend hadn't been enough in the past (had been spending under £20 per month for ages).

Phoned back and requested my PAC, this time ended up speaking to a lovely chap who told me about the refurb phones, gave me a rough price for a deal and told me they seem to get the iphones in stock every week or so, so told me to keep calling back until they had them in.
Now have lovely iphone 16GS, £40 for the phone, £35pm for unlimited txt and internet and 500 calls.

Definitely keep calling until you speak to the right person :)

True its going to be better and I know people will go out the day of release and get it but they of course wouldnt be able to get the good deals that we have been getting off o2 for 3GS though.
For me I would much rather have 3SG an not be paying a fortune a month/ for the phone.

How true, I can't wait for the new iPhone, there will be a deluge of cheap second hand 3GS phones on the market and dealers selling new 3GS phones cheap, especialy when you consider the next software update will do the same as the 4 bar the physical bits.

Rafaranter, I agree with the previous posts, keep trying. I didn't get my deal at the first time of asking and in fact it seems that I shouldn't have got that deal at all.

I was looking at my account and the deal wasn't showing so I rang them and was told that it was impossible  Thankfully the deal I was offered was showing in the notes but had'nt been transferred to the system. The guy had to speak to the manager who authorised it only because it was in the notes.

So when you get the deal you're happy with, make sure they have recorded it in your notes.

BTW my replacement phone has arrived and is working beautifully :j
