Hi, first time poster! Have been following this thread for a while now as am going to upgrade my mobile in next few days. I spoke to O2 retentions today and the deals on the iphones weren't great. There are apparently no recondition 16GB 3GS in stock at the moment. They would not budge on the charge at all for the actual handset and could only offer additional bolt ons like extra minutes which arent really much use to me.

The only other offer they gave me was a Blackberry 9700 Bold for £32.50 a month, 300 mins of calls, ultd texts and ultd internet with £180 credit on my account after the 2nd bill. This effectively gives 5 months free line rental. This is a good deal but I really do want the iphone! I will try retentions again tomorrow and report!

    Hi all,

I probably like millions of others am waiting for the iphone HD. My contract is up for renewal with O2 on 16/05/10. Will my current contract just continue until I give them notice to cancel or change or do I have to notify them of my intentions?

Also, what are peoples thoughts on how much the iphone HD will cost per month when it comes out?

Will there be long delay or waiting list before you can get your hands on it?

I've never had an iphone, so I don't know what happened in previous years when a new iphone came out.

    cheers all

Once your minimum term's up it'll change to a rolling 30 days contract. You don't need to do anything it you want to stay with them and wait for the new iPhone.

No one will have any idea on pricing yet. The guys in the finance dept of the network I work for 'think' the 4G will go in at the price point of the 3GS which will drop to the 3G point. The 3G will replace the 2G which in turn will be withdrawn.

But that's all speculation until Apple announce a release and the price.
  • I just wish Apple would hurry up! I know previous years the latest iphone has been announced at the WWDC but they're late announcing the date of the WWDC this year according to a website I found. I don't want the latest but if the 3G S is going down to 3G prices I don't mind waiting a short while but I'm getting impatient now. :D

Apple are a law unto themselves. And will take their own sweet time over everything.

You never know, the 4G may have a low res black and while screen, no camera and be made from wood if Steve Jobs just happened to be in that mood. . . (although I hope not!).

Well, I managed to get through to o2 Retentions last Thursday afternoon when the Refurbs were in stock and ordered one (16GB 3GS, Black, £30 a month, reduced from £35 p/m). However, when the confirmation e-mail came through - it said nothing aout the reduction in tariff cost and said I'd ordered an iPhone 3G!

So I rang o2 Retentions, lots of apologies, was told when the phone arrived to refuse delivery and to send it back, which I did and to ring o2 Retentions again. Which I did and was told to ring back on Monday once the returned phone was back on their system. Rang Monday - told to ring back Wednesday as it takes 3 working days for the phone to get back on their system.

So I've rung up this morning - just spoken to Natalie, who is very apologetic. The manager is currently listening to my call from Thursday to confirm I'd requested an iPhone 3GS and says that if it turns out to be the case, then they have no choice but to give me a brand new iPhone 3GS as they don't have any refurbs in. I'm waiting for a call back to see what they decide.

...The temptation to request my PAC code and go elsewhere is getting very strong indeed, needless to say!

Edit: o2 Retentions just called back, they confirmed I had ordered the 3GS and they're dispatching a brand new iPhone 3GS straight-away! Should be here tomorrow.

  • Question: I have a 3Gs. I am in the US and therefore use the exclusive iPhone carrier, AT&T Wireless, and they require the unlimited data (inside the US) plan for all iPhone accounts - $40/month, on top of call and text plan cost. When I visit the UK, I do all the normal things to make sure I don't get dinged by the data roaming monster, but I don't seem to get reliable text or voicemail notifications, and of course the GPS and location services-related stuff doesn't work at all. Also, I plan to move back to the UK this summer. I have two questions:

    1. Are there PAYG SIMs I can get on an iPhone carrier network that will give me a local UK number and that will make my 3Gs fully functional, including data, location services, visual voicemail, etc., and if so, are they in any way sensible in terms of cost? Note: I also carry a little Nokia 1100 with a UK T-Mobile SIM that I use when there and that's fine for voice and text, but not even on the same planet as the 3Gs in terms of overall function.

    2. When I move back to the UK, are there service plans for existing iPhone owners, i.e., plans where the subsidy against the initial cost of an iPhone usually provided by the carrier (O2, etc.) ISN'T built into the monthly cost of the plan? This might be moot anyway since I've been away so long (23 years) that I doubt I have any credit records at all anymore, so may not even be able to get a monthly plan, which wouldn't be so good, and I'd need to revert to PAYG anyway for a while.

Appreciate any insights you may have.
