why are people with in-contract Iphone 3Gs even thinking of breaking out of their contract to 'upgrade' to the new one? The new iphone does not add that much extra hardware functionality on top of what the OS 3.0 ipgrade will give anyway? Ask yourself, do you really NEED the compass? do you really NEED Tom Tom ? (it will probably be overpriced anyway, and rumours are you will have to buy Tom Tom's own cradle to get the software to work). The additional HSPDA data speeds on the new 3GS are not supported by O2 (yet) and tethering tarriffs are well overpriced. On top of that, I think the voice activation thingy is largely a gimmick which most people will not use anyway. Do you really see yourself on the tube/train/bus in the morning saying out loud 'play songs by Kylie' ??
IMHO if you have a 3G Iphone, just stick to it, upgrade it to OS 3.0, downgrade to simplicity monthly contract with data (£20) when your 18 months are up and upgrade to the next gen Iphone this time next year.
You forget that for some people (myself included, although I did skip the 3G for various reasons), gadgets are an interest/hobby. You don't NEED those things any more than you NEED beer, or NEED that new plasma TV or NEED a new car, or whatever people treat themselves to because they enjoy what fellow mankind has produced. It's just something else new to play with, and heck, most people "waste" their money on something they enjoy. Look how much some people spend on going out, or gambling or whatever. Whether it's worth the money is a personal matter.
People do need to weigh up whether it's worth it to them personally, of course, this is very good money-saving advice. But chances are, those who are queuing up for them in the morning, have their reasons/passions and cannot be stopped. Because they're geeks (like me), having a good time and grabbing a new toy to entertain them :beer:0 -
If you don't like it, sell it.
I still wish it had
easy user changeable battery
external memory cardsFred Bloggs0 -
I've just got my iPhone 3GS.. i had the money, wanted one, so thought, what the hell..
It's virtually the same yes, but it is hell of a lot snappier at loading things up.... just putting loads of music on, and going to decide what other music to add on, now i've got 32gb of storage on it, rather than 16gb.
Maybe a few of my all time favourite movies will be added on too!!

I love my iphone. It`s more expensive than my last phone contract but I have saved money in other ways so it`s my treat!0

Sure enough I did jump on the bandwagon (Pay&Go, 0% card for 12 months). A little early, as I give 30 days notice for cancellation on 7th July to end in August, but what the heck. As I said, this kind of thing is a big interest/passion of mine
WOWZA this thing is fast, especially noticable if you've used the previous generations. It's insane. The rendering of webpages on it has finally caught up with Wifi, and the results are instantaneous, like on a desktop. NICE. Pretty much worth the upgrade for that alone!0 -
Anybody having problems with software? Never had iphone before today so no idea if this is a common thing.... during the day my iphone has frozen at random times and nothing works, screen just goes black and an apple logo appears then its back at the home screen. Not sure if this is software or phone fault???
Also a few of the app shortcuts have lost their picture or changed to a duplicate of a totally different app on the screen.
Its an amazing phone but i wont be keeping it if this happens all the time, gets very annoying as i had just typed a long email and it crashed before i had chance to send it.0 -
Sounds like you picked up a lemon instead of an Apple. Unlucky and unusual, but I'm afraid you're going to have to head back to the Apple / O2 / CPW store to get it replaced. You'll get very good treatment if you go to an Apple one (even if you bought it from O2 or CPW) if you prefer a nice simple swap with no argument.
But that's definitely not normal behaviour - I'd take an educated guess that its RAM is faulty.0 -
I wish i had waited now as carphone warehouse have changed the pricing on the handset to free for a 16g iphone 3gs on an 18 month contract at £45 a month! I just paid £89 for the phone through mobiles.co.uk on the same tariff due to the higher cashback (£60). But even with the lower cashback (£45) from carphone warehouse, you are still quids in due to the fact that the handset is free! Do you think there is any point disputing the cost of the handset with mobiles.co.uk by referring them to the carphonewarehouse website?0

where do you get this information from... the carphone warehouse are still showing it at £87.11
