Finally ordered one, Went for the iPhone 3GS 16gb on PAYG.

Looked at the 32GB but worked out I wont get close to using that much storage.

Rang O2 asked if the Simplicity Sim with Web bolt works on the iPhone, and they said yes. So that is the best PAYG option I reckon.

Was thinking of getting it on contract but 18months is just too long for me and they ran out of stock on the 16gb on mobiles and CPW.

Does anyone know where the best cashback is offered for a PAYG iPhone 3G S (16GB)?

Most of the cashback offers are based on contract iphones - the best I can find for PAYG iphone is 4% from the Apple Store (quidco)

Apple store is the best one I've seen unless yu get the 12 month simplicity sim from O2 via quidco and use that and then you get £35 cashback, but you are tied for 12months.

Thanks for that, I think I will do the following:

    16gb iPhone 3GS on PAYG from Apple store £440.40 - 4% cashback
Then 12 months on Simplicity for £35 cashback

Just at the end of an 18 month with an N95 8GB, costs me £35 a month for 600 mins, 500 texts unlimited o2 to o2 calls and the data bolt on.

If I sign up again without taking a phone they will give me £150 account credit.

So, do I buy an iphone 3GS 16GB PAYG, put my exisiting sim it it, have a £150 contribution from o2 towards the iphone cost instead of buying an iphone on contract?

I think the only downside would be no wireless hotspots unless I buy the bolt on, on the plus side I keep getting free o2 to o2 calls.

Anything else I should be aware of?

    Thanks

If I get a Simplicity PAYG sim, can I transfer my T-mobile number to it later on?

Not out of contract yet so haven't got a PAC. Thinking of cancelling early and paying off remainder of contract, but would like to get a PAYG iphone in the meantime.

The iPhone contract is an OK deal by comparison since you're contemplating signing up for 18 months again one way or the other. If you go with the credit and buying a PAYG iPhone you will be paying £290 for the phone, which is £115 more than the £175 you would pay for getting the iPhone on contract at £35 per month, same as what you would now be paying.

However you have highlighted the unlimited O2-O2 calls as being important to you so your idea may be a better one in that case. I believe that if you renew for 18 months without taking the phone you can negotiate a line rental discount in addition to the £150 credit, that would save you way more than the entire cost of the iPhone then.

Thanks for your reply, yes you are right all my family are on o2 so free o2 to o2 is good and would be needed on a 600 min contract but today I went for the 1200 min deal at £45 and the 16gb iphone, however I managed to wangle a £15 a month line rental discount. So im paying £29 a month for 1200 mins and 500 texts.
  • Cpw and Carphone have now annouced the 32gb Iphone 3gs on pay as you go for £538.30
  • Oh dear, the iPhone3gs is not as reliable as Apple would like us to believe. Within 40 hours of the recently launched iPhone 3GS there are a reported 68 bugs. These bugs range from minor display issues to application crashes.

Remember if your iphone goes faulty it has to be returned to apple, so you could be looking at 4 weeks ( 28 days ), without your beloved Iphone.......

OH yeah ony carries a 12 month warranty as well
