Hopefully phone should be delivered before 1pm tomorrow. I got a phone call earlier as they noticed I'd ordered 2. The first one, I cancelled due to my CC deciding my card had been defrauded and declined the transaction.

They confirmed that I now only had the one phone on order (using debit card) and that it was being despatched for delivery before 1pm.

    Nows where it gets complicated.

I've got a works mobile, which I've had the same number for over 10 years. My company has allowed be to have the PAC number, so I can use this for my new mobile. I get to keep the number, they save on paying my company mobile contract (Didn't want to carry 2 phones around).

Only reading the email about transfering the existing number, it says you can't port to the same network. Which it is O2!.

I know several people who've ported from O2 to O2 before, is it Mobiles.co.uk that can't do this, or is it an O2 thing?

[edit] Just got my email with Royal Mail tracking number :j

My understanding is that if you were buying from an O2 shop, they would simply port the number to your new phone. If you buy from Carphonewarehouse (or anywhere else other than O2) they can't do it on the spot for you. However, if you call O2 customer services once you've got the iPhone, they'll port the number for you although it might take a day or two to complete.

    Regards,

oh my im totally confused now, im not the most techy minded. I liked the look of the white htc magic in the shop, then heard about the new iphone, a new palm phone and now i read on the bbc that theres a new nokia n97 iphone like mobile out today!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8105203.stm

would the iphone be the easiest to use, i read its available today from mobiles shop and I gather you can get quidco also.

though its the most pricey and you have to have it for 18 months. I think I might give it a few weeks and downgrade my current contract in the mean time as the 12 months ended last week. Im hoping they will drop in price. I need to have a lie down and research more.:o

    Decisions, decisions.

why are people with in-contract Iphone 3Gs even thinking of breaking out of their contract to 'upgrade' to the new one? The new iphone does not add that much extra hardware functionality on top of what the OS 3.0 ipgrade will give anyway? Ask yourself, do you really NEED the compass? do you really NEED Tom Tom ? (it will probably be overpriced anyway, and rumours are you will have to buy Tom Tom's own cradle to get the software to work). The additional HSPDA data speeds on the new 3GS are not supported by O2 (yet) and tethering tarriffs are well overpriced. On top of that, I think the voice activation thingy is largely a gimmick which most people will not use anyway. Do you really see yourself on the tube/train/bus in the morning saying out loud 'play songs by Kylie' ?? :)

IMHO if you have a 3G Iphone, just stick to it, upgrade it to OS 3.0, downgrade to simplicity monthly contract with data (£20) when your 18 months are up and upgrade to the next gen Iphone this time next year.

Hello, I am thoroughly confused with all this iphone malarky. I was thinking of getting an iphone and then found out about the new "S" model.

I thought that the old 3G model is the same as the 3G S with the only difference being the new OS 3.0 software (which you can download for free for the old 3G model anyway).

But based on what you said above, there is a difference in hardware as well? Is it only tom tom, voice activation, compass and tethering that you mention above? Or are there other differences? Does the actual phone look any different?

They are listed in what he posted? There aren't that many differences. Main ones being better camera, video ability, compass and ability to get 32gb memory

...not forgetting of course the faster GPU & CPU. also, the compass is there mainly for the benefit of the apps, such as google maps i.e the phone will be able to tell your orientation (a bit like tom tom following you as you turn a corner but without turn by turn directions.) its also beneficial for developers as it gives them more tools to play with when designing apps and games.

    * TO ANYONE GOING DOWN THE PAY-G ROUTE *

many people are suggesting buying an iphone on payg, binning the supplied sim, then buying a 12 month sim only pack with the free web bolt on. if thats what youre going to do then dont forget that you'll get £35 cashback from quidco when buying a 12 month simplicity sim only pack on the O2 site. there is also a double texts incentive for buying online (1600 instead of 800) Otherwise, its £23.33 cashback for other sim only products.

p.s. dont be fooled where its says 'excl. iphone' - that only applies to 18/24 month contracts.

p.p.s.... this guy does a good review of the 3gs..
