Thank-you Guys for all your help, I had been relentlessly trying to get through to renew my claim, But kept getting the busy message and then cut off. Today was the deadline for renewing and I was in complete panic mode as I still couldn't get through. I read your posts and got the alternative number of 01355359007. I called this number and was only on hold for about 20 seconds and did not have to go through the automated system, The whole thing was completed in about 2 mins. Aparently the new experian identity checks are causing a nightmare for them, Which is understandable considering you have to create a password to contact them in future resulting in questions like (and this is not a wind-up) What is your Favourite food and what was your favourite subject in School.......LOL. I am delighted I got it renewed though, A big weight lifted off my mind......Thank Goodness for this site and Forum.

the experian checks arent causing a nightmare at all as advisors have been advised all week that they could use the old checks for anyone completing a renewal this week.
if anyone hasnt managed to get through today you will still be able to complete your renewal by phone over the next few days as claims wont start to be terminated till later in the week.

If like me you have spent days of your life trying to get through to tax credits renewals, try phone number 01355-359007. It is for international callers, but i got through immediately and spoke to a very nice man who understood my frustration. He very kindly took my renewal details, but said not to use number again. I have been trying for days and keep getting the standard 2 differing voices automatic answering saying, sorry all lines busy, try later. i have been on continuous re-dial for hours at a time. Finally got through last night at 20minutes to 8, only to be immediately cut off when put through to an advisor. Are they just putting the phone down on us!!!!!!. Appalling state of affairs, why can we not renew on line, like we do for all our other tax affairs. Anyway, try this number if you are getting desperate!!!
  • you are a star i got through straight away no questions asked about whether i was from here or abroad!

Thank you so much to everyone who posted telephone numbers on here - I have been pressing redial for ages on the 0845 number and I dread to think how much it has cost!

Anyway just got through to a lovely, very helpful person and all was sorted in no time at all :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T

Forgot to say I used the 01355 359007 number

I could not believe how unable you are to get through on the phone. I sent my form in early this month but wanted to check it had got there (know a few people who's didn't despite being recorded) but was cut off every single time, any time of morning or afternoon.

The last time I tried was yesterday evening and the automated message was still saying send the form in, even though it would not have got there by the 31st??

They tell you not to leave it until the last minute but the last month should be ample time to get through, especially when you don't get a form to return until then :rotfl:

At least the tracking number says delivered, if they claim they didn't get it I'll tell them they could have heard from me over the phone, all those times :rotfl:
  • I've been trying since Monday to get through and renew my Tax Credit claim dialling the 0845 number, I get through each time to be told 'Sorry, we are very busy right now blah blah' god only knows how much these calls have costs me, Ive rang over 50 times this week to get the same reply.

Came on here for help and would like to say a big thankyou to everyone who have posted this number - 01355 359007.

I got through straight away, was on hold for about 10 minutes then spoke to a lovely, helpful lady who took all my details. My claim is now renewed. I cant believe I've been ringing the 0845 number all week  Although Im very happy now, it's sorted.

    Thanks again x
  • I managed to renew today waited 15 mins on hold.....however WHEN did I give permission for experian to share my credit information with HMRC, and for the person on the end of the phone to view this information and ask me questions about it?

I replied no that I didn't agree, and the women said, "you said that was ok"! completely blackmailed!
  • I don't understand why they are using my experian credit file in order to renew my tax credits or is it just another way of confirming my idenitiy?
    Nothing to report:p

yes it is to confirm identity, you should only have to go through the process once, the idea is to ask questions that only you are likely to know and then allow you to set up a password on the account or choose specific questions which will be used in future.

After spending literally hours trying to get through on the usual number 0845 300 3900 and being cut off half through each time, I looked on here for martin's tips and found the other number of 01355 359007...I tried it and got through 1st time....amazing !! just wanted to share this info with all you frustrated customers. Hope it works for you too

Me too! I had quite literally been on redial every 7 seconds for hours yesterday and was losing the will to live. I am sure last year I got through easily and was then put on hold. This time there didnt seem to be this option, just the 2 alternative "cheerful polite women" saying to phone back another time:mad::mad::mad::mad:.
At about 7.10pm when my heart rate was getting to dangerous levels I decided to google "tax credit helpline........." just to see if there was any clues anywhere about what I could do, or if there was a problem with the phone line, and found this number:):T
Got through at first attempt, put on hold for 25 mins and then suddenly this voice came from nowhere " Can I help you?" I could have kissed him, I was SOOOOOO relieved:):).
Have made a note to do it MUCH earlier next year and to try this number if all else fails.
