Price comparison sites are so confusing and vary widely. I find, when you check small print and prices, that they aren't cheaper even though the comparison site says it is!

I am desperately trying to find out what my new EDF prices are so I can decide if I need to do a runner.

I'm in Yorkshire and on online V1 tariff.

As it's a discontinued tariff they don't have details on website.

They don't open phoneline on sundays (another clever timing trick) so can't ask them.

How can I find this info? I need to switch ASAP.

Ah that's alright then, they're improving the services they offer us.
Improving them by about 20% I'd say.....

There was a power cut earlier on today so a lot of the systems went down including those that are necessary for online management.

    Hi,

Slightly off topic. I'm a first time buyer just moved in and getting used to balancing finances. I have pre-pay meters for gas and electric installed by the previous home owner and they are under British gas (gas) and Scottish power (electric) for supply. I have just started the process of transferring to Ebico for both gas and electric. Would it be more advisable after todays news to cancel and go to capped when I can get the meters changed over to quarterly payment? I am concerned that Ebico will be forced to increase their prices due to general cost of purchasing gas and oil on the markets. I am a low income household and the pay as you go meter helps me budget for fuel payments. The current hikes are very worrying. Thanks for any advice.

:T Thats right, capped tariffs are subject to a hefty price increase in the first place, IMO a lot of people would be better off staying on the cheapest variable rate tariff that they can and switching supplier every 2/3 months and get 60.00ish cashback each time.

I agree, I'm on E-on online v5 and the cheapest capped tariff from any supplier is 39% more than I'm paying now, so even if there's a 40% hike, I'd be no worse off .

I've been always been sceptical about these things and never believe the hype. I think, and it's only my unfounded opinion, that the energy companies have played Martin Lewis this time, knowing how many followers he has, into talking folks into paying higher prices for a fixed term..

Like I said, just my unfounded opinion, and all the hype could well be true, but I'm gonna gamble on this one.

    Hi all,

I'm confused (newbie's perogative?!) We're currently with Sainsbury's Energy for Duel Fuel (not capped) which I think is part of EDF? Heard about EDF's price rises on way home from work and immediately did a swtich to Scottish Power through moneysupermarket. Says it will cost an extra £27/annum but it's the capped deal... have I done the right thing...I've apparently got 7 days to cancel if I change my mind!

    Thanks,

    Mcspanna

Probably repeating what has already been said.
These "comparison sights are confusing", for example I am on edf version 5

    Paying:- EDF VERSION 5

    Previous Rate New Rate

    Rate 1 Rate 2 Rate1 Rate 2
    10.08 6.153 12.5 7.791

    Rate 1 increasing by 24%

    Rate 2 increasing by 22%

If i do a comparison check, for example itspat out Scottish power as the best on a capped rate their electricity was

Scottish power capped for one year Rate 1 Rate 2

    19.4 9.3125

This equates to an increase from EDF new rate of 50% in rate 1
    20% in rate 2
They might be capped for a year, but unless oil /gas spike higher ,which only Iran and America and Isreal could force at present, feel like I am better staying put as cannot see EDF increasing their prices again in next 6 months.
However my online version % was fixed to Septemberof this year even thougth they have just put it up!, cannot see them rising it again in another months time.Anyone any comments on that

If you only have electricity from EDF then it might be worth staying put.

My electricity has only gone up by a combined 18% but my gas has risen by 82.9%.

Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Suppliers are greedy and there is no way they will offer a capped price deal that they will lose money on in future if prices go up. They are not there to help us after all.

I predict prices will fall on wholesale level as demand for fuel falls(led by unemployment-ppl can't afford to heat etc).

But then, what do I know?

That's what I am doing, seems little difference in prices anyhow and with cashback its a nice sweetener

It doesn't pay to be loyal sod the companies and use them as they seem to have little regard to loyal customers

I have done a search (this morning)with a view to moving away from EDF,but, using both figures before and after increases, the results come back with negative savings.
Do I stay were I am?

Before yesterdays increases my bills were £17.00pm for gas,and £43.00pm for elec. my tariff is online 5!
I only changed from n-power to EDF in March.
