How come your gas is so cheap?

 I don't know, they ask me questions,I answer and they tell me how much to pay.
Both bills have always been similar to this, so switch to maintain the same sort of balance, and try and keep ahead of the game.

Refer to your terms and conditions. I'm sure it will say they need to provide you notice...and that if you don't agree with such an increase you can switch to an alternative supplier whilst paying the old price until such switch takes place.

Edit: See term 3.2 of your supply contract

Brilliant tip! I just called EDF and they tell me the increase in my gas for the coming year (from yesterday) will be 47% !!!

They are unable to calculate the increase in electricity.

I'm off to Npower for a capped tarrif and to write a letter to EDF refusing to accept the new terms!

So is that 47% on top of the 22% rise
  • Ive just read everyone's posts from the last 24hrs and determined to get my gas/elec accounts sorted tonight! All the companies are closed now so i cant check with them over the phone. Im with EDF Energy on a Dual Fuel standard direct debit tariff, so guess im affected by the price hike. Ive used energy helpline comparison site and says i can save £71 if i switch to capped dual with Scottish Power and £59 EON. (I put in my total Kwh for the past yr) SP has cancellation fees if i pull out early. Looks like you cant cap Gas on its own so shall i go ahead with SP on the Dual? Im assuming the site is using EDF's old prices (before yesterday's increase) so i will be even better off than the savings they are quoting. Am i right?
And since it takes 4-6weeks to take effect, do i get the capped price at the rate i registered with or will it be their price in 4-6wks time in which case i wont know if ive made a saving or not because the other companies will shortly put theirs up too! Help what should i do?

Ill let someone else answer most your questions, just to say if u decide to switch to E.on or Scottish Power clear your cookies and switch via www.quidco.com who are offering 55.00 for a dual fuel switch to E-ON and 62.00 for a dual fuel switch to SP.;)

Similar Cashback rates at http://www.cashbackkings.com/ just that in the instance of E-ON at the time of posting this u would have to apply to CBK in order for them to match quidcos 55.00 rate.
  • thanks for that, i'll have a look at quidco!

Really, really annoyed about this. How can they give absolutely no notice whatsoever and then tell us that even if we switch today, it will take upwards of 6 weeks before we are transferred over the a new company and tarrif??

I will be switching over to Scottish Power this afternoon as their prices are cheaper with a fixed deal until 31st August 2009 compared to EDF without a fixed price deal.

Switched last week with quidco. £75 cashback as well!

I would like to know this too.
  • hi, i am new to the forum and would like someone to explain why?, when i tried this afternoon to change from british gas to scottish and southern energy through the energyhelpline, only after i had filled in the forms and bank details and agreed to the tems and conditions. i was refused because my p.c. does not allow cookies. do i have to change my p.c. to get a cheaper energy supplier?
