I phoned EDF yesterday and after holding for 5 minutes for the person to check with a supervisor to be told that the increase for people on the online V5.1 tariff had not been announced yet and to ring back on monday, also looking at fossmans 2 previous posts the figures quoted do not match even allowing to add 5% vat to the first set.

i was told that they have not gone up for v5 yet also.after EDFs last increase the online tariff failed to rise so i am not to worried yet.the cs operator did quote me the new standard tariff prices.i hope people are not mistaken them for the online v5 prices and jumping ship before double checking.

I think Martin typically tends to recommend Moneysupermarket etc. because the cashback is guaranteed as opposed to Quidco etc. where it's not. However I have to say I have never failed to get cashback via Quidco (other than where I failed to follow the instructions)

Martin recommends moneysupermarket because the low cashback it gives the punters mean cash for the site. ;)

Pity martin cant get moneysupermarket to up its cashbacks to MSE punters as 30.00 for a dual fuel switch against 55/62.00 elsewhere is putting it mildly pathetic IMO. :(

I emailed EDF about the V5 online icrease and have had a reply saying it`s 17% for gas and 22% elec!

So someone has got it wrong!

Back to uswitch etc to see who is cheaper now.
  • I'm in a dilema - I pay £45 each per month (Gas & Elec) and so far i'm in credit. I'm with Southern Electric and have the best customer service by far. I originally started off with British Gas  and then moved to Npower   and have then moved to Souther electric who have provided the best ever customer service.

The problem i have got is that i'm torn as on one hand i cant afford a huge energy rise and on the other i'm loath to go to a company i know is poor at customer services.

I have spoken to Southern electric this morning and they have advised me that they are always the last to put up their prices and dont put them up as much as the others.

I have done a comparision check and the capped are all coming out at a minimum of £60 extra a year compared to what i pay now. also at the moment i receive argos points and a 6% discount (monthly dd). what would others in my situation do?

if it works, dont fix it ! stay put cos they're all going to go up anyway.
  • Well thats 3 of us that have now contacted EDF about the onlline V5 tariff, all to be told different stories, would anyone else like to contact them to see what they say.
  • Just a few minutes ago spoke with a chappie called Gary to check the new prices for Online 5. He started and then realised that something was wrong and put me on hold for the best part of 10 minutes before coming back and reading off prices to me that were very audibly being dictated to him by someone presumably standing over his shoulder:

    EDF Online v5 (Southern Region)

    Electricity
    Band A: 10.66 (was 9.58)
    Band B: 8.31 (was 6.39)

    Gas
    Band A: 6.224 (was 3.620)
    Band B: 3.059 (was 2.373)

He sounded very much like he didn't know what he was talking about, so I'm not very confident about this.

Pity (read: pretty annoying) that none of the comparison sites seem to have the updated rates for Online 5 as I can't do a comparison either.

Thanks for the info - I've just changed (again!), this time to Scottish Power. I'll be printing out EDF's T & Cs and forwarding it on.

In the good old days before companies like EDF etc started ripping its customers off hidden in EDF's T&Cs was something like "if we increase our prices we will tell you in writing within 10 days of the rise taking place" now I see they have amended that to " We will be allowed under this contract to change any of these terms (including the price we charge you or the structure of your tariff we charge you) at any time. If this change is to your significant disadvantage (such as a price increase), we will notify you in accordance with the requirements of our supply licence ("Variation Notice").

So what is this "Variation Notice" and where can EDF's overpaying customers read it?

Divide the new price by the old price and ignore the 1 at the start of the answer
    Band A (6.224/3.620 = 1.72) 72% increase
    Band B (8.31/6.39 = 1.30) 30% increase
    Cashback earned
    Quidco : £858 :)
    Pigsback : £20 and a Beatles CD.
