So is that 47% on top of the 22% rise

No, that is the "22%" rise. I called them and said I'd seen in the press that the prices were rising, and could they tell me by how much. I've only been with them since September, and they said it would represent a 47% increase over the next year - ALTHOUGH as they didn't have a full year to calculate against it could be MORE!!

I asked for the address to write to in order to reject the new terms as I'm switching - the girl didn't seem to be aware of this clause in their T&C's so I'll be sending the letter recorded to the address she provided and also the one on the back of the bill.

 hi, i am new to the forum and would like someone to explain why?, when i tried this afternoon to change from british gas to scottish and southern energy through the energyhelpline, only after i had filled in the forms and bank details and agreed to the tems and conditions. i was refused because my p.c. does not allow cookies. do i have to change my p.c. to get a cheaper energy supplier?

Try when in Internet explorer going to Tools/ Internet Options/Privacy and then moving the slider bar to low while u do such a switch, then either move the slider to medium afterwards or back to high depending on where it was to start off with.

You will get a better cashback deal by switching via www.quidco.com or http://www.cashbackkings.com/ however your cookies need to be working properly for these to track.

if you join Topcashback you will be able to test whether your cookies are now being allowed via its test tracking facility.

I don't think you literally need to write to them, I think you can do it by changing supplier ( not 100% though ). Some ppl ahem are changing every three months and going through cashback sites and get £30 off each quarter!
Help me to help you :santa2:

how sure are people that the online v5 is going up

I rang them on Friday after seeing on the news that the prices were going up and they told me what the new prices for online 5.1 were!

Based on my annual consumption for gas of 6,972 kwh this is my old price v new price comparison (prices include VAT):

    Band A - 3.5763 x 5,860 = 209.57
    Band B - 2.4769 x 1,112 = 27.54
    Total of £237.11

    Band A - 6.621 x 5,860 = 387.99
    Band B - 4.106 x 1,112 = 45.66
    Total of £433.65

    Increase of (433.65/237.11) = 82.9%
    Cashback earned
    Quidco : £858 :)
    Pigsback : £20 and a Beatles CD.

Have EDF reduced Band A for gas from 5,860 to 2,680kwh a year?

If so this would change the calculations I've done!

OK here are is my new v old price comparison on online v5.1 east midlands (all prices are ex VAT).

    Electric Band A - 10.48 (was 9.43) increase of 11.1%
    Electric Band B - 7.45 (was 5.68) increase of 31.1%

    Gas Band A - 5.571 (was 3.406) increase of 63.6%
    Gas Band B - 3.056 (was 2.359) increase of 29.5%

Based on my annual usage my electric will cost £24 more a year and gas £135 more a year, a total of £159.

These prices are still less than if I switch to a capped tarrif!

I phoned EDF yesterday and after holding for 5 minutes for the person to check with a supervisor to be told that the increase for people on the online V5.1 tariff had not been announced yet and to ring back on monday, also looking at fossmans 2 previous posts the figures quoted do not match even allowing to add 5% vat to the first set.

Thanks for pointing my error out Carpetseller (I'd added 1.05 to the net prices they'd given me instead of multiplying), figures should be:

    Band A - 3.5763 x 5,860 = 209.57
    Band B - 2.4769 x 1,112 = 27.54
    Total of £237.11

    Band A - 5.850 x 5,860 = 342.78
    Band B - 3.209 x 1,112 = 35.68
    Total of £378.47

    Increase of (378.47/237.11) = 59.6%

Just need to verify whether they have reduced the Band A kwh now, if they've reduced it to 2,680 per annum then my annual increase will only be £57 which isn't to bad.

I think Martin typically tends to recommend Moneysupermarket etc. because the cashback is guaranteed as opposed to Quidco etc. where it's not. However I have to say I have never failed to get cashback via Quidco (other than where I failed to follow the instructions)
Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
