Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

EDFs announcement is a combined average energy rise of 39%
Don't think so0 -
The average is 19.5% and I believe this is just the start of real pain for people and businesses0

Refer to your terms and conditions. I'm sure it will say they need to provide you notice...and that if you don't agree with such an increase you can switch to an alternative supplier whilst paying the old price until such switch takes place.
Edit: See term 3.2 of your supply contract

Thanks for the info - I've just changed (again!), this time to Scottish Power. I'll be printing out EDF's T & Cs and forwarding it on.0 -
Really, really annoyed about this. How can they give absolutely no notice whatsoever and then tell us that even if we switch today, it will take upwards of 6 weeks before we are transferred over the a new company and tarrif??
I will be switching over to Scottish Power this afternoon as their prices are cheaper with a fixed deal until 31st August 2009 compared to EDF without a fixed price deal.
It's been in the press for weeks about an expected 40% price rise by Xmas/January...these prices might rise AGAIN....just depends if oil slips more or starts climbing again.
I switched to E-ON capped from EDF and it was finalised today....good timing for once.
EDF rang me a few weeks back (very courteous) asking what they could do to make me stay. I asked if they did a fixed or capped tariff....NO.
The girl actually said that prices might not rise...and we both ended up laughing....nothing further to say.0 -
If you dont call the recent hype in the media (aswell on this website, by Martin and others) a notice about things to come I dont know what is.. I dont even think this is the last rise from EDF, more to following later one.
I meant specific notice. I.e. we will be increasing our prices to ..... on so and so date."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -

They don't do it...normally they raise the prices and you get the letter a few days later..it's a real pain...then it takes you 6 weeks to move so you're stuck with the price rise until you change supplier.0 -
Have Uswith/moneysupermarket etc been updated with the price increases yet?
I am online V5 lan and pay £30 elec and £30 gas a month, eberything else is still coming out as more.
Thanks0 -

They have to tell you if they are increasing their prices. You must be given notice before the end of 65 working days of the date of the price rise.
You also have to be told that you have the right to terminate the contract (by switching to another supplier). You have 10 working days after being told about the rise to tell them you are going to end the contract. If you do this, your supplier should not apply the price rise to you. If you tell them you are changing supplier but then don't, the price rise will catch up with you - the transfer process must begin within 15 working days of the notification being received.
This is contained in Supplier Licence Condition 23, sections 4, 5 and 6."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
