I think you are getting confused - I wasn't discussing cancellation charges; I was suggesting that may be a requirement condition to get the phone unlocked.
Therefore it may be the case that the company has reasoned it has no remaining obligation to offer to unlock the phone, as it has not recovered the subsidy cost.
I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the policy, or even whether it actually exists as such, but it is something to bear in mind for the people who have phones that are more difficult to unlock.0 -
Hi
I’m lost with this I have had no letter?
Are calls to your voice mail included in your minutes?
I think they are.[IMG][/IMG]0 -
still undecided? remember, you only have 30 days (from receipt of letter?) to make your decision. or you may want to wait for your cashback to release & just complain you haven't receive the letter. but for your peace of mind, better act on it asap!
at first instance, this news is superb! wow, freedom! an opportunity for some who doesn't really want to get tied-up in a contract. only thing that would make us think twice before terminating our contract is the thought of losing out on casback due to us, the deal which actually made us signed-up for a contract. i must admit, 'took me a while also to decide. just cancelled 1 contract today thru phone.
for those who got their phone with a good cashback deal from a reputable dealer, consider some pros & cons before cancelling. carefully study your situation & come up with good mathematics out of your contract. how much have you paid so far (less cashback already claimed), will you be better off or wouldn't feel bad losing your remaining cashback? plus, if you currently enjoying your free 500 minutes calls & 100 texts monthly. especially for nokia 6630/6680 users (like me) who wants to carry on using their handset (HARDLY unlockable phones). forget about the free handset that comes with your contract (that's just another bonus!), just consider the line rental against cashback & your monthly usage as the deciding factors.
to put it simply, here's to show you the scenario as per my actual contracts with 3 (all 12-month contract via e2save-cpw with 500 mins. calls/100 texts £30 monthly, 1st 3 months £15)*. out of 3 contracts, i only cancelled 1 (only much to my brother's disappointment, as he's the one using the sim):
*in my case, cancelling a £30 monthly contract deal would mean me using an alternative payg sim with £10 monthly top-up (mild-user). saves me £20 each time? 'depends (on cashback)!
nokia 6680 (new)
total amount to pay after cashback: £204
cashback claimed: £0 (none yet)
paid so far: £75 (4 months, was supposed to claim my 1st cashback of £37)
cancelled?: YES
ex: £75 (paid so far) + £80 (monthly payg top-up of £10 for remaining 8 months) = £155 (better than paying £204 in total, so CANCELLED!)
nokia 6630 (new)
total amount to pay after cashback: £70
cashback claimed: £0 (none yet)
paid so far: £45 (3 months)
cancelled?: NO
nokia 6630 (refurb.)
total amount to pay after cashback: £48
cashback claimed: £0 (none yet)
paid so far: £30 (2 months)
cancelled?: NO0 -
Anyone know how long people on orange have to get out of their contracts due to the 0800 number 10p price increase.0

*Edit - since I posted this, crisam has pointed out the inadvertent mis-wording of the quoted post - the intention was to say hardly (see below) - in other words agreeing with the comments about difficulties on unlocking these
See also Browntoa's remarks here
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1024041&postcount=1PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO UNLOCK THE NOKIA 6630+6680+7710+9500+9300+6620 , the only way to get it unlocked is to pay the Network ! . Any site that claims to unlock these is lying !! . The only equipment available at this time repairs the software on the phone, it cannot unlock it ( info still correct 07/10/05 )0 -

Instead of writing half an essay about why you never wanted to be in this contract anyway, why not read the free phone unlocking advice for Nokia phones, kindly provided by Browntoa in this post?

Someone has already been told that the network will not unlock the phone, and someone else is saying it is impossible at present.
I'm sorry if you will think this is rude, but perhaps other people will be more careful to get all the facts before making a decision
well sorry, i meant to wrote "HARDLY UNLOCKABLE..." instead of "HIGHLY UNLOCKABLE...". if that grammar still incorrect, my message just meant to be "u cannot simply unlock those phones"!!!
my previous post or "essay" is not for u as u have already made up your decision (i saw your post)! doesn't makes sense anymore to u. took me ages to decide also 'til i sat down & made some computations which i showed, hoping it will help others too.
btw, if u want to correct other's mistakes, do it nicely. no need to be rude. treat everyone here as a friend (online).0 -
oh sorry, it looks like my post was unnecessary as we seem to be in agreement about the locking issue
I'll think about how to edit it0 -
Glad to see we are all friends again.
Out of interest how many have cancelled.
I have for 1.0
