  • My oldest monkey wore his 1 day old school shoes to play in the woods and fell in the swamp. I have rinsed them until no mud came out and they are slowly drying out - but they stink - and I going to have to bin them or can anyone come up with a great solution

I have left my rather smelly trainers with a load of bicarb in them over night to reduce the smell in them. It works quite well. You may have to do it several times if they are really smelly!!

    Hi me and me monkeys,

There are lots of ideas on this older thread that might help:

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the suggestions together.

get an old sock fill foot area with tea leaves, add few drops of essential oils of your choice, tie off then place inside your trainers.the tea absorbs the sweat whilst the oils will leave them smelling fresh

I pop my trainers in the washing machine with towels on a 40 wash :) That works.

I have done it with Hush Puppy leather mules too and, amazingly, they came out fine ! It was a choice of wash 'em or bin 'em so I had nothing to lose ;) They were a bit stiff for a few days but fine really !

    can you wash them?

Otherwise, sprinkle the insides with bicarbonate of soda. you may have to do this for a few nights in a row. or buy new insoles?? In america they had these things called 'odor eaters' insoles! ahahahhah not sure if they have them here.

also, not to be too personal, but perhaps trying to solve the root of the problem with the feet that made the trainers stinky? Talcum powder to stop the sweat?? HTH!!;)
  • yep we have odour eaters over here too, it's not the sweat that causes the smell it's bacteria that lives in the dark moist parts of the body, arm pits & between toes are the prime places for this. Have a word with your local pharmacist as they might be able to suggest something to get rid of the bacteria.

  • Hmmmm, nice!

They don't smell 'sweaty' more like wet dog smell! Think the pharmacist can help with this?!?!?!

I have used Odour Eaters in the past but I was hoping for a cheap n cheerful way to resolve the issue. The shoes still have a few miles left in them so I'd rather not replace them just yet!

    Will deffo try the Bicarb!

  • I use tumble dryer sheets ie 'bounce' etc. Leave them in when you take the trainers off and they smell lovely every morning.
