stinky shoes - any ideas?

Recently wore a pair of my best shoes to an event, but the weather here in England took a total turn for the worst at that moment. What was a glorious day turned into a soaking wet muddy one.
By the time I got home, the shore were wrecked. I washed them, using a cloth and hot water. But I didnt realise that it would stink so badly after being dried.
They absolutely reek, I have tried the general deodorant trick, doesn't work.
Any suggestions? Someone online told me this board had a ton of ideas in an old thread he looked at, but he couldn't find the link.
Thanks for the advice!0 -
have you tried bicarb sprinkled on/in them? and or Fabreeze?"The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

I was going to suggest bicarb also. Sprinkle inside, put in bag and tie knot in bag, freeze for 48 hours, remove from bag and bang out any bicarb leftover.

I also use bicarbonate of soda. brush it in with a soft brush - leave it a little while then hoover out. saves using any chemicals and half the price of shoe deodarantsEvery days a School day!0

My No.1 son has a real problem with stinky work boots - thanks for those tips. I'll get in touch with his girlfriend with your ideas.
We've cured his smelly feet problem - but of course that's not much use when the boots are so contaminated!
Wonder how much freezer space you need for size 13 steel toe caps :rotfl: .0 -
if you put them in the freezer for a couple of days in a plastic bag. the freezing temperatures kill the bacteria that causes the smell. bacteria needs warmth to survive. i saw this tip on tv not so long ago tried it and it works a treat better than any deoderantstarted comping september 2008. september win 100 pounds love to shop vouchers with muiller. october win field maple and garden tools.0

Hi samarnesen,
There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.
