  • My o/h sprayed his stinky work boots with jeyes fluid , let them dry then washed them in the machine. They smell REALLY clean and fresh now - I can't believe the difference!!! I would normally have had to chuck his boots out and get new ones but they are still smelling fresh 8 weeks later!!

thanks, I have looked through the previous threads and am going for total anihilation - jeyes fluid then hanging on line to dry before another wash in the machine followed by some undiluted disinfectant that I use for the animals (patio, floors etc). hopefully this will be enough to sort out the offending stink. Then a liberal dousing of tea tree oil

If that fails they are going to the freezer then the bin

I'm having this problem with my work shoes (like court shoes, so I wear them without socks). I've tried putting bicarb in and leaving overnight, that did nothing. I've tried putting some tea tree oil on a teabag and putting that in them (read that on here I think!) and also stuffing them with newspaper.

They smell better in the morning, but once they're on, it's like the smell just comes out again =/ I don't think it's my feet as don't have it with boots/shoes that I wear socks with, I think it's purely down to wearing no socks which tends to make my feet sweat more (especially when for some reason, they insist on making the insole a shiny silver material!)

Any ideas? A lot of the suggestions are for trainers which I would just chuck in the washing machine, but i'm not sure these would survive...although I may risk it with one pair as i'm unlikely to wear them if they continue to pong!!

It won't help the current stinky pair but in shoes I don't wear socks with I put washable insoles in. Then they can just be chucked in the wash when they get stinky

Freakyogre - this summer I've been wearing tiny "footsocks" with court shoes - invisible in the wearing, but does help! I found them in Boots.

Although it's not so much old style moneysaving, I've found that the air fresheners you get to go in cars that look like little balls like these http://www.paragonsports.com/images/large/370-87003_assorted_cl.jpg work wonders to keep the smells at bay - One in each shoe whenever you're not using them! Can get them in Halfords, or I have seen them in Morrisons too.

Can't comment on the court shoes but with regards to trainsers sometimes when they get very wet the water reacts with the glue and they then smell like cat pee _pale_
My trainers went like this one wet summer when we went camping and its taken a veeeeeeery long time for the smell to abide.
This being the case you might find keep washing them adds to the problem.

I haven't read all the replies but Johnsons baby powder helps. IMO it works. Put a couple of puffs from the inside out and leave to air.... you should notice a difference. Failing that remove and replace the insoles.
