stinky shoes - any ideas?

Most trainers should survive a jaunt in the washing machine, that should solve it, with a spin after to drain. If you prefer there are also sprays to remove odours e.g. febreeze or just wash it in a bucket with washing up liquid or detergent, ive used all these methods worked wonders for me!
The smell will be from bacteria growing on a damp or sweat soaked sole, insoles can definitely help prevent this. A shoe freshener pouch, lavender pouch, or tumble dryer sheet (e.g. bounce) stuffed in the shoe will keep it odour free!0 -
Yeah it could easily be something bacterial growing on your feet, athletes foot is a distinct possibility as the last time I had it it smelt doggyish. Wearing trainers all the time is the perfect way to give yourself a nice dose of foot fungus.Winnings

Was told that geranium oil is good for stinky shoes; haven't got round to looking up how much to use, etc., though, so if anyone can offer any clues ...That's Numberwang!0

Ermmm...you could try washing your feet and socks more often.0

Simple washing doesn't get rid of the bacteria, it needs proper treatment to kill it off. ps I wash my feet & change my socks every day & still get athletes foot from time to time.Winnings

my trainers get an overnight soak in BioTex every so often. to combat fungi and athlete's foot, my (french) podologist/chiropodist recently told me to simply rub my toes and toenails with bleach from time to time! will definitely try this - a lot cheaper than tea tree oil."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0

Tea tree oil kills bacteria - I sometimes put a few drops in my hands and rub it all over my feet - you can use Tea tree neat.0

my slippers and work shoes have started to smell, mainly because they got wet, i work outside and my shoes got soaked once, i've tried drying on the radiator but cant seem to get them completely dry.
the slippers got a bit wet as i sometimes wear them after a shower/bath without completely drying my feet.
so its not my sweaty feet causing the problem its just the damp in the shoes/slippers.
what would be the best way to sort them out? febreeze? bicard? wash? (if wash, what cycle/temp??)
thanks0 -

They are leather sling back court type shoes. I've put them outside, I wondered where the dreadful smell was coming from, the birds will be passing out.
All good tips.
Dont forget guys it is important to wash the feet and socks as well as the shoes.Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?
