Nuisance Calls

• Most county councils sell telephone numbers to raise cash. If you are registered with the TPS (telephone preference service) and receive nuisance calls report every call to your local Trading Standards office, after all they probably work for the same council who initially gave your number way in the first place. If enough people contact them they might just change their practice. SH

Hi,
Not quite answering you post, but couldn't find another place to post this.
For any nuisance calls, I have found this great site where at least you can trace who it is who is calling you, if for some reason it is not listed already, then post the nuisance number and some one will always post back on the same thread. At least then we have some information about these companies to then report to the TPS or to whom it may concern.
It should be stopped as they are a real nuisance!!
Hope this helps some of you.

• i too have been menaced by Rachel and offers of Cancun so i've just emailed them on CustomerService@onceinalifetimegetaway.com with the following...

hello there

i am currently being plagued by automated calls from your "Rachel" informing me about a trip to Cancun

and it's starting to get very annoying - to say the least

i will not be pressing 1 to speak to your staff to find out more - no matter how many times you call. period (as i believe you say over there)

i am in the UK and have a morbid fear of flying so i will never ever ever ever be going to Cancun or anywhere else - even if the trip costs me nothing - not even if you pay me. Wales is about my limit for travel - which suits me just fine.

so please please please how do i stop "Rachel" (or any of her friends) from calling me anymore?

isn't there some kind of law in the states about this kind of harassment? do i need to issue a writ to stop you? is that how it works? or is there a more friendly way in which we can settle this?

if you can assure me that you will stop, i will gladly provide my phone number to prevent further unwanted calls - and save you the cost of all your calls into the bargain

you webpage says "once in a lifetime" and in my opinion, i think that's exactly how often you should cold call people

many thanks,

Adrian (an unhappy Brit)

PS please don't bother spamming me with email offers, as they will only be filtered straight to my junk folder - thank you

...i'll let you know how i get on :)

I remember a whils back there was a number you could ring to stop all those calls you get, some where silent calls and some were those pre-recorded calls saying you had won this and that. im sick of these calls but cannot remember the number i rung that stopped all these calls. can some one remind me please
All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

So, I'm cooking dinner this evening, and the phone rings. <out of area> says my phone display, but I'm with TPS so I figure my best friend has forgotten to turn off ID blocking (again! ;)) and answer anyway.

And it's not my best friend, but an annoyingly familiar brief silence followed by a greeting from a distinctly Asian voice (which, from the sound of it, speaks English as second language) asking if a 'Mr X' is there. Wrong gender and I'm not married, (although worryingly he's got the correct surname), so I say no-one of that name lives here. ;)

Next thing, he's reading out my phone number and asking me to confirm it is correct. No chance I'm going to do that, so instead I ask what the call is about. Launch one scripted speech about them being 'Global Survey' and me giving one minute of my time to take part in a survey. I say I'm not interested, and with the TPS. He mutters something about TPS not applying, so I ask to be added to their 'Do Not Call' list. He says OK, and hangs up.

Half an hour later I'm sitting down to eat, and the phone goes again. <out of area> says the display again. Interesting, so I decide to answer, and it's 'Global Survey' Agent Mark 2 - a pushier model who is determined to get me to agree to take his wretched survey. He starts by asking for 'Mrs X', so I use the same excuse as before. He bypasses the number check and goes straight for the survey speech, so I jump in and tell him I'm with the TPS.

Unfazed, he says that TPS doesn't apply as he's not selling anything, just giving me the chance to participate in a survey which will only take a minute, so I tell him I've already asked to be added to their Do Not Call list. He says this is the first time I've been called, I reply that this is the second call of this evening (and I'm sure I had one earlier this week, as I had another 'no number' call and a blank answering machine message waiting when I got in one evening). He shrugs this off and heads back into 'now this survey will only take a minute of your time' etc.

I'm fed up now, so I politely but firmly tell him no-one in this house will be interested, and please add this number to their 'Do Not Call' list - and he's still going! Yes, he will gladly add me to the 'Do Not Call' list, but this survey really will only take a minute and - "I'm not interested, thank you" - he's sure I will find it <click>

First time I've ever just hung up on one of them...

Question is, anyone got ANY idea who this lot are? Google has drawn a blank, aside from a link for the Global Survey Group which, when clicked, resolved to "UK Survey Panel.com", a paid survey site. On top of this, I'm absolutely SURE I had calls from them before, several months ago, and asked to be added to their 'Do Not Call' list then.

TPS really needs to be expanded to cover this kind of call, methinks...
Never underestimate the power of the techno-geek... ;)

I'm getting the same harrasment from this company, my car quote was from e-car insurance, the moral is if you dont want nuisance phone calls then dont put your details onto their website. Hopefully with time they and other companies associated with leadx will then go bust and we can all get some peace.
Aha, so thats how you do a signature!
• I have recently moved into a new rented house and had to have my number changed as it is a different area. That was about 2 months ago and ever since then I have been getting calls from someone who always asks for a Mr or Mrs Baylis (As you may have guessed my surname is not Baylis). The number always shows as Unavailable and it's always someone Asian on the other end. I end up answering a lot of the time because my mother lives abroad and when she calls her number also turns up as unavailable, so I don't know whether it's her or not.

These calls are driving me mad, I get them everyday or every other day and no matter how many times I tell them that no such person lives here and take my number off their database, it just doesn't happen. What can I do?

Blow a whistle down the line and deafen the sods.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I keep getting calls from the above number several times a day but it is obviously a computer dialled call as when I answer the phone the line goes dead. I have called the number but there is only a recorded message saying something along the lines of they will call back as they may have some goods/services that may interest me but no mention of who the company is.

I am registered with TPS but they don't appear to be able to do anything about this type of call. BT offer call barring free for 28 days then they charge, although they couldn't tell me how much.

Is there any way I can put a stop to these calls?
