We suffered 4 outbreaks from September to December. First outbreak I used a zappa comb. I found it too difficult to get through waist long hair. Ended up using conditioner to wash and smooth hair then I just picked off the eggs with my finger nails. On the second outbreak someone told me that live louse are parlysed by water. So to find them easily comb only wet hair looking for them (wish I had known that first time). £rd & 4th outbreak just did the wet comb and finger nails. Less painful on child than the little nit combs. Touch wood for almost 10 months we have been clear. Not holding my breath though as we made it to 8 years old before the first outbreak. I had always put this down to spraying hair every morning with water and teatree oil. Obviously wasn't working last winter LOL.

I did read somewhere that the lice like short and tied up hair better than loose hair as they can get straight to the food. Not risking this though!

I say bring back the nit nurse and auto suspension from school until child clear.

Who would want to be a NIT NURSE though? After spending many a fun evening combing through my 2 children's hair and getting rid of nits, how many hours a week would the nurse have to work? You would need a whole army of nit nurses for each school.
Or
do they just tell you your kid has nits and send them home?

they used to just come, look in the back of your hair and send you home if you had them.

used to do a class in about an hour i think.

When I was in school your hair was checked and at the end of the day some little darlings went home with a brown envelope. Not me though!!

I loved having my hair played with so I used to play upto my mother telling her I had been scratching all day so she would check my hair LOL

For a chemical free repellent spray, there's one called 'Nitty Gritty' ;D There's an aromatherapy kit that contains a solution and a double-sided fine-toothed comb. Website HERE

I was surprised to read that this is available on prescription so is free to under 16s (and anyone else with a prescription exemption certificate). Nice change from the smelly chemical stuff that used to be given out.

I would be a nit nurse, just so i could send the ones that had it home and hopefully they would get rid of it once and for all.

If you actually gave the child the lotion then the parents may actually use it and we could all stop it going round like it does.

fingers crossed little miss divadee hasnt had it this half term, but still a day to go :-/

3 yr old came home with them from nursery yesterday, he hardly has any hair for goodness sake. two great big ones sat laughing at me in his fringe. >:(

I dont believe it, was checking little miss divadees hair last night and shes got nits again >:(

i found one live lice and about 20 eggs >:(

so late night for her as i was combing them all out etc... then put lotion on she is just about to have a bath and hair wash to wash all the stinky lotion out.

How come this year is the worst year up until this year only had them once now 4 times in a year i am soooooo peeed off

We suffer nearly everyweek someone is crawling..our big problem is daughters fine hair..the combs do not work, we have had loads, the electronic, fine toothed, metal plastic NONE get the eggs out. I have to sit with tweezers!!! if dad hasnt checked hair over the weekend and she had them on friday..by the time I get to check on tuesday could be hundreds of the white sods!!! Monsters inc twice in a row whilst i pluck with tweezers ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...wish I felt better for that!!! :-/
