I queried the 'switch' over the phone yesterday. I thought I may have sounded a bit thick, but obviously didnt want DD and SO's coming out before any wage had been paid in. I was assured I would recieve a list of all DD's and SO's before they were actually added to my new account. She told me it was so you were able to check all were still correct and I wasn't paying anything I didn't need too.

You also give you work address / Payroll number and they contact your wages department and organise for your wage to be paid into you new account. She told me over the phone after they recieve you final list of DD's and SO's this would take approx. 10 days to sort out and be transferred to new aco!!!!.

I don't know where else to put this feedback - I just clicked on the link for 'BEST BUY if you're a bit of both' to be taken to this, which I found quite misleading:

Best Bank Accounts: If you use in-credit & overdraft

The interest earned in credit is usually dwarfed by the cost of an overdraft. So it’s always erring on the side of getting the cheapest debt.
The top accounts if you earn over £6,250.
The champion account here is with Alliance and Leicester, not much of a surprise as it's a top-pick in both the in-credit and overdrawn categories.
    • Alliance & Leicester 8.5% in-credit, 0% overdraft, £100 bonus.

The Alliance & Leicester Premier* account offers a 12 month 0% overdraft, plus a £100 bonus if you switch to it and 1% in-credit interest, but isn't available to anyone who already has an A&L current account. The bonus £100 easily makes up for the low in-credit interest rate.
Yet - unless I'm wrong - there is no dream A&L account offering '8.5% in-credit, 0% overdraft, £100 bonus.' Certainly the Premier account quoted doesn't offer this.
I clicked through on the Premier link above and only just noticed in time that it's not 8.5% interest, it's 1%! (which it does say in the paragraph below the headline if you're keen-eyed enough to spot it)

It's important to make clear that there are actually two A&L accounts of a similar name - premier and premier direct - which you would only know if you read down the whole page rather than clicking to this 'best buy' for sometimes in credit, sometimes overdrawn.

So, if you want the version of their account that does give 8.5% interest, there's no £100 joining bonus.

If you want the £100 joining bonus, you only get 1% interest.

Both offer an electronic 'refer a friend' £25 bonus, and 0% overdraft for a year.

Have I got that right? I think the article is unintentionally misleading for people who jump down to this heading, and hope this section can be made clearer, and the headline changed.

    :)

I wouldn't use A&L, even for £150. They're the worst bank going, in my opinion.
  • Has anybody else encountered any technical difficulties? I fill in the first two pages of the switch over form and then when I click to the third it says this page cannot be displayed. I have tried it on several different PC's over several days. I rang them up but obviously the £100 is internet only. I also can't find an e-mail to complain/tell them about this. Can anybody help...?
  • Just to let people know you can get upto £50 cashback for A&L account through Topcashback aswell (and they don't claim your first £5 of cashback like quidco).

I signed up through topcashback the other day; just keeping my fingers crossed that my cashback is tracked! :j
  • I rang A&L today to increase my new overdraft (stoozing) when I rang they said, " can I take your account number" Yep!
"can I take the number on your debit card"
"no as I am just in the process of opening the account"
"sorry but you have failed the security"

Bang your head on a wall time but they were able to answer my question without going through security.

Can't wait to get £100 + stoozing interst and also hope Abbey takes over as Abbey is more local.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

"going through quidco is to risky...?"

    Don't know.
I don't think the T&Cs are at all clear on this.

When I get a chance I want to phone them up and ask. Annoying you can't email them.
I phoned them up and didn't get as far as asking about cashback sites, I'm afraid.
The woman I spoke to said that to get the £100 you had to move your salary (not just fund the account by standing order), at which point I gave up. We don't want our main bank account there as there isn't a branch particularly near work or home.

Though if I can get £50 from Topcashback, plus a 0% interest overdraft (for Stoozing) I guess this is still worth doing...

Yes, u are correct, :T and the third different offer:rolleyes: is if someone opens A+L current account at a branch, instead of 8.5% interest or 100.00 in the account they can have the 12% or 12.5% ( which ever it is) One year regular saver. :rotfl:

I opened an account and went via quidco to get an extra £50 and it was tracking fine until today. Its now showing £0.00 in my quidco account. Has this happened to anyone else? I have contacted quidco about it and I am waiting for a reply. BTW before opening my account I did clear all cookies so thats not the problem
