I just wanted to thank you for lurking around this thread, passing moral judgement and rolling around laughing at other people's difficulties. Perhaps you would have a different view if you had experienced these difficulties yourself.
im laughing at the hysteria some folk work up saying thier kids lives are in danger because they dont know what speed they are doing.:rotfl:
im not passing moral judgement, im giving my opinion and im free to do so.
the reason im not affected by this problem and many others is because ive leant early on in life that your user name is so true, and has been for quite some time,so ive never owned a renault and probably never will.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:...work permit granted!0 -

Can you add my name to this Renault Scenic faulty dashboard club?
Got an 04 Scenic 1.9Dci with 69k on clock. Had car from new. Both Wednesday and Thursday last week driving home from work, the dashboard lights all went out and reset. At first I thought the engine had or was about to cut out, but as I was on the motorway it kept itself going. Although there were no drop in engine performance.
Now after Reading this, it sounds like it's dreaded dashboard fault. Which in someway is a bit of a relief as I was thinking I was going to conk out in the third lane of motorway during rush hour.
Again yesterday when I came to start the car, the clocks had reset and I had to turn up the brightness on the screen. I thought it was me with it being bright sun, but dimming of the dashboard lights seems to be one of the symptoms. Expecting complete failure then in next few days/weeks.
So are Renault now fixing this for a flat £100 fee, or do you still have to pay for diagnostics? Am I better waiting until it's all gone before approaching Renault or would 3 resets in 3 days with dimmmed instrument panel be enough evidence of this fault.
TBH £100 for a Renault dealer to do anything is pretty cheap considering they charge £60+ just to change a light bulb. Something you can do yourself in 5 mins with a bit of painful arm bending (done both headlights this month). Yes the fault shouldn't exist and a free recall should have been done. But my car is now over 5 years old so £100 isn't as bad as a £600+ bill.0 -
Add another dash reset to that. Done it again this morning. Time to give Renault a call.0

Mine did it for 3 days then finally gave up the ghost, worst part being that we were on holiday in France at the time, which meant that we were worried it would give up completely and we would have to be towed home.0

Called my local Renault dealer who said that they were aware of the dashboard fault and if I paid the first £100 towards the replacement, Renault would pay the rest. Said they were a £500+ part.
Got it booked in for next week.0 -
Glad you got fixed up, you may as well get it sorted rather than carry on and potentially get speeding fines due to no speedo or even pulled over by the police and if you have no display then you are driving an illegal car and can incur more penalties0

Yes they have a common problem with the (motorolla) micro processor. Often heating the processor will temporarily fix the problem - enough to diagnose that this definitely is the fault. I have written to Renault on more than one occasion telling them that their dashes are poorly manufactured and they should at the very least be replacing them under warranty when they go faulty, and at best do a recall. I never even got a response from them. I have also contated BBC watchdog about it. I am told it was featured on watchdog but I am afraid I never saw it.
Anyway if anyone has the faults as mentioned in this thread I can repair them for a reasonable price. PM me for prices.0 -

Glad this one got resolved for most, we have 3 meganes, 04,55,07 later models I know but hopefully theyed done the dash fix by then.
I'm not sure about the highlighted quote tho', I don't think it is illegal not to have a working speedo is it????.Inconvenient yes, illegal to speed yes. And you do need the abs warning to light up to enable it to be tested Remeber the VOSA test does not cover thisI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
