Hi Cyrilbro, The no speedo aspect was highlighted on Watchdog, otherwise I would not have known about it.

Got car dash replaced yesterday. £100 and 12 month warranty.

Because of the cars age (2004) they claimed they are not allowed to transfer the mileage onto the new dash, so it's now 00000000 - I do though have to take my warranty book in so they can make a note of the old dash mileage. I'm guessing it'll also be logged on some computer system.

We had this done on our 2001 Laguna a few years ago, would we be able to get the money back retrospectively? It was repaired at the Renault dealers.

Hi Tiff, unless you ask, you will never find out. Give customer services a ring. Ours was fixed in July 2008 but they didn't pay for it until Autumn 2009. Good luck

My dads got the 1.8 version of the OP car and beside the usually wear component, The only thing that went wrong with it are a a gearbox problem that wasn't too expensive fix and the boot button falling out. It been the best most reliable car we've owned and has done 70kish in less than 4 years. Although i know some people have had problems with the car.

But I digress what I think this country needs is to be able to do a class action suites like you can in the USA everyone one can put into toward funding the case and then if you win the winning. It would encourage companies to make things that work, But I spose we live in society dominated by planed obsolescence

Hi Stevie 07 At least you found out now. I had to pay the other £400+ 17 months prior to them admitting there was a fault and sending me the money
  • I am yet another unfortunate customer of the dreaded dash panel failure. I had the same problem as lot of the previous messages firstly the dimming of the panel then the clock re-setting then the intermitant disappearance of the dash panel and now total disappearance.
The reason i write this is be very careful when you have your dash panel fixed as the mileage is very distored. I had 46k on my panel when i got a call from the dealer asking what the reason was for 90k milage. I had to explain there was no way i could have done 44k in a few months since my MOT. So please check paperwork when you get it back for this problem.

My mileage went back to zero, so when I went to get the MOT I had to tell them why the mileage was so low. When I had the instrument panel replaced, they made a note of what I thought the mileage would be and passed that iformation on to Renault.
  • I'd heard about this problem, but until recently have had no problem with my 2005 Scenic. Then my clock decided to reset itself to zero one day last week, and in the space of seven days it has reset itself, and the whole dash flashed off and back on, at least once a day since. This morning it went completely blank. I rang my local Renault dealer and, thanks to this site, I was aware of the £100 offer. They booked it in for tomorrow and agreed that this was the price I'd pay, and Renault would pay the rest. NOTE: they will only replace it once the dash goes completely blank. Looks like you have to put up with the intermittent fault until it goes completely, leaving you with no dash at all- bit dangerous in my view - I think they should perform the fix as soon as the fault starts. After all, It's going to go at some point.
