I own a Renault Scenic 1.9 dynamique which is 3 years and 10 months old with 51100 miles on the clock, (estimated). Whilst driving it in France on Tuesday morning, the clock (time) and tripometer kept going back to zero. I reset the clock time about 4 times and eventually the dash board lights started to dim and brighten and then the display went completely blank. I managed to get on our ferry (luckily as we were coming home) then rang the RAC who:jwn problem with this model of car, even though I found a similar problem when investigating on the internet. I was provided with a case reference number.

The garage advised that they needed to know by 17:00 last night in order to fix for today as they needed to order the part. I gave them the go ahead and at 10:10 this morning received a phone call to say it was ready for collection.

I am mistified as to how if this is not a common problem the car part is so readily available and also would I have a claim in the small courts for parts not suitable for purpose.

Any help and or advice will be much appreciated:mad:
ecu testing fix these for £200 2 year warranty

Has anyone had problems with the radio/cd going dead on a Scenic 1.9 Diesel 54 plate? My husband changed a bulb in the front headlight, he kept everything live with his battery pack, but now the radio has no life at all...fuses are fine! And does anyone know whether there is a 7 year warranty on the radio/cd...seemed to remember reading it on the internet???

Had the exact same thing on the wife's 06 plate 1.6 petrol scenic !!
Changed headlight bulb then a few days later she complained that the radio/cd player was dead.
Today we found the car battery was dead and had to jump start it. What I've noticed is that after locking the car (once charged up) the dash clock and temperature indication stay on permantely.

warnee, did you (or anyone else) find what the problem was ??
Anyone have any clue to this ?

  • Just an update on my above problem. I had to leave the car alone for a least 4 days as I had problems with the house boiler but when I came to look at the car the battery by this time was very dead. Jump started first time and let it tick over for about 15 mins before switching off. I got out, locked the doors and this time the dash went completely blank (apart from red flashing alarm indicator - which is normal anyway). Got back in and it all started up ok and has been fine since. Looks like completely removing the power has reset the electronics and the dash display is now fine. Worth a try for anyone else having the same problem. woe7t9.

Hi, I can recommend ECU testing - had the control module done on an Audi multitronic, and they were outstanding!
  • Got the same problem with my 53 Scenic. Seems that if I pay Renault dealer £100 I get a new panel but my mileage is gone. Does anyone know if it can be repaired and I keep my mileage? Is it possible to get a new panel and have the mileage transferred or is that illegal even on your own car?
  • What a wonderful thing Google is!
My Scenic 1.5 dci (55) started resetting the trip computer several times in a short journey, then told me about a Tyre Pressure Sensor Fault and then went bye-bye's forever! I drove home and called the AA out, but to no avail. He tinkered about and just happened to mutter that a colleague said that a disappearing dash was a known fault with Scenics.
So off to the internet I go, type in Renault Scenic dashboard, and here I am!
Very grateful to all those who have had this problem before me and who have advised what to do. It's now Sunday, so I shall ready myself for a call to my local Renault dealer on Monday morning.
Apart from this problem, I've been very pleased with my Scenic which I've had from new and driven for over 75,000 miles. I get what I think is excellent economy of over 60 mpg.

My 05 Scenic's dashboard has just gone blank while I was driving home this evening. I've had the car from new and it has done an exteremely low mileage (19,500) and has been well looked after.

Less than 6 months ago we had problems with the rear electric windows - one was jammed shut and the other dropped into the door space without the button having been touched.

I called the AA tonight as I was scared the car would develop other faults on the remainder of my journey home - I thought it might lose power or the steering wheel might lock. The AA man wasn't able to fix it at the roadside but was familiar with the problem and suggested I have a look online when I got home.

I'll be contacting my Renault garage tomorrow and if they are unhelpful, I'll be on to Renault UK customer services first thing on Monday morning.

Fab forum - such a wealth of helpful information. :D

Once my car has been fixed, I'll be selling it and buying another car (which will NOT be a Renault!)

:j A better soloution... We have an 05 Renault Scenic 2 that had the dash display computer replaced twice, once by Renault, and once by a shady chap that ajusts mileage, the first time we lost our mileage record, it's gone again but this time we had been told about a company that repair the fault and give a 5 year warranty ICS 02871 301023, they where very helpful indeed.
  • just had my dashboard repaired by firm in cannock staffs cost £60 but has now gone up to £80 i think.it started resetting all trip counters plus clock everytime i started engine after leaving it. then the whole dash faded and flashed so knew it was on its way out because i had researched symptoms when they started.
just go look for chipgods for details.was a bit dubious at first left it a day but its been fine for over a week now.
one bit of advice they gave was to unplug connectors behind dashboard(details of how to do this on renault forums) as mileage can jump as mine did 2000 miles.
as i live in the vicinity i just took mine in and collected it full tested by them.
apparently renault send them their dispalys to rectify.
  • Hi,

I have a 2005 Scenic Megane 1.5 dci. I've experienced quite a few problems regarding the electrics on this car, including a £400 bill for faulty windows, something I will admit Renault themselves confirmed was a common fault but only managed to meet me half way with the cost of putting it right.
My latest problem is the electric petrol range on the dash - on 3 occasions now Ive started the car the morning after the night before knowing that around 250 miles should be showing, however on all occasions the range meter has counted down to zero which worries me or shows less than 50 miles which is baffling me??
Im seriously considering changing this car as I've spent around £850 in a couple of years on work and parts including £120 on a wiper arm.
Does anyone have any ideas on the problems with the petrol gauge issue? If it is something small thats causing this then i might consider keeping the car.... anything too expensive and its going.
    Thanks
