Bought a 53 scenic beginning of February this year and so far have been delighted with it .....
just this week got the dashboard problem already mentioned on here - driving along, all the lights flash up on the dashboard but engine still runs and then the clock goes back to 0.00, temperature gauge is having a "mad un" too !!
This has happened 3 times this week so got back to the garage where I bought it (3rd hand) luckily it is under the warranty and hopefully they are going to source a new dash for me .... fingers crossed it works out ok.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

Hi Calebdylan, this is a known problem, which Renault are normally prepared to pay for fixing but expect the owners to pay £100. It has even featured on Watchdog on BBC. If you read all the comments, you will see that this has been going on for nearly 2 years, but finally last year it was agreed that there is a fault.
Potty House, I am sure you will get the majority of it paid for, and if it is under warranty, hopefully all of it.0 -
Hi
I'm looking at buying a 2nd hand Scenic (53 plate, 35k) being sold for a bargain price of 3k
Would this be why its being sold so cheaply? If the dash breaks could I get it fixed at a discount by Renault due to the fact its a recognised fault??0 -
It is only certain models of the Scenic which are affected and certain years, as far as I am aware. Mine is the 1.9 Diesel and a 54 plate registered first in Sept 2004.
I would certainly check history, as 35K seems lowish mileage for a car which is now at least 6 years old. Ask for any service history, and maybe you will find it has already had the job done, in which case, you really should find out what the true mileage is, or at least I would certainly check if I was buying.0 -
Has anyone had problems with the radio/cd going dead on a Scenic 1.9 Diesel 54 plate? My husband changed a bulb in the front headlight, he kept everything live with his battery pack, but now the radio has no life at all...fuses are fine! And does anyone know whether there is a 7 year warranty on the radio/cd...seemed to remember reading it on the internet???0

Hi all
Just thought I should share my recent experience with a blank Renault Scenic display on our 05 plate car.
Our digi-clock started to flash about a month ago and i read forums then which suggested this could mean the display was on its way out. Initially i thought we would be ok but, as predicted, about a week ago our display disappeared for good. Again I hit the forums and saw that more recent posts were saying that Renault were fixing this problem for a £100. I also went to the BBC Watchdog site where there is a statement from Renault to this effect.
Armed with all this, I rang our local Renualt dealer in Cambridge ready to argue my case - expecting ignorance, or to be fobbed off. Anyway, when I described the problem, the guy mentioned the Watchdog feature before I did. There was no argument and I was offered the £100 fix straight away. On top of this, because the panels were on back order, I was offered a small courtesy car until they could fix our car.
As it turned out, I only had to wait a day before the panel arrived and we were back on the road...however note that our mileage was wiped so I was asked to guess the mileage for Renaults records.
So overall, I was very pleased with Renaults response. I am not the original owner and the car is five years old - none of this was an issue. In summary, if this happens to you, get in touch with your local Renault dealer asap.0 -
I have an 05 Scenic and on thursday 26th Aug the instrument panel started flickering and cutting out. It went black on thur night when i was driving home. On the Friday 27th I phoned our nearest renault garage - 15miles away- and told them the fault. The first day they could look at the car as they didnt have the part in stock anyway was the 6th Sept! Said that would need a car as have to work and was told all courtesy cars out. Spoke to the Cust Services number and spoke to a really nice guy but no resolution was found. Explained situation - work until midnight and was to work on Sat 28th and couldnt use public transport due to where i work and times. Was told that if i wanted a courtesy car on Tuesday - though they couldnt guarantee that - then i would have to take my car to the garage and once they were satisfied that the instrument panel was at fault then they could order a car for me but that would take 24 hrs and it was a Bank Hol on Mon! Advised them car was illegal to drive and dangerous but advisor at cust serv said car wasnt dangerous! So upshot was my husband came home to look after our 2 kids and my friend drove in front of me the 15 miles to the garage to make sure i didnt go over speed limit, and we left the car there. Basically both the dealer and Renault Cust Services didnt really care. Asked them also for a hire car but they wouldnt do that. Very shoddy service and as far as i am concerned wont buy a renault again and will tell everyone my experience.Funnygirl0

The same thing has just happened to me, own the 05 megane scenic. They fixed it straight away but told me I was lucky because usually you have to wait 3-4 weeks. I told him he was lucky I was not taking this further, it's dangerous and was annoyed but about paying £100 for a problem they have. Once I picked the car up they tried to tell me that my brakes needed replacing my tyres needed replacing etc etc, little did they know that my car was mot only a week ago and the brakes was replaced. Conning gits, do not let them do any extra work on your car. I will never buy a Renault again! Please do not forget to thank me if this is a good deal :beer:0

Hi
I am delighted having just had my Renault dash fixed for less than £150 (via ebay user aarong06 - 07500 803768). This is a mere fraction of what Renault quoted (£700). I didn't even have to pay until the dash had been received and fixed. I feel it is only fair to share this information as people are being quoted extortinate prices for replacing/repairing. Good luck to all those in my position. Hope you have better luck with Renault than I did!0
