  • the speedo on my golf is broken at the mo, well the whole car is too, its in the garage AGAIN
  • I have had the same problem with the dash on my 2006 grand scenic were it had been reseting time and trip computer every time i started the car and just yesterday morning the dash went blank and has never come on again so i phoned renault customer services on 08000723372 and spoke to hayley who was very helpful and admitted that renault knows of this problem and is down to a manafacturers fault.she advised me to book my car into my local renault dealer for diagnostics and said that renault will pay full cost for a replacement dash. Also anyone who has forked out for a new dash get unto renault and ask for your money back they will have all your information on your car and what work was done on it and expect a check in the post if not contact watchdog.

    good luck all
  • Hi - had our 54 scenic go into the renault dealer on Wednesday with exactly same issue as mention on this thread - about 50,000 miles and the dash just packs up.

I recalled reading or seeing an article on this with Watchdog a little while back so did some research before going to the dealer and used the evidence (and there is loads) from the start - stating that this is a known issue on Scenics and my expectation was for a full repair at no charge.

They suggested this was a £67. diagnosis and then they would discuss with Renault Customer Service. Later that day I had the call - £580.00 !! replace the dash panel. No surprise I told them as I had explained that this would be the case, the evidence was overwhelming.

Customer Service got in touch - same discussion, known issue and expectation is for them to sort. It is fair to point out here that I am also a long term renault user having owned 6 of various shapes and sizes which I asked them to take into account.

They summarised everything I said, and then asked me (REALLY) "what is your expectation of a resolution" - to which I replied that given the nature of the history of this issue I expected renault to sort this free of charge....... THEY AGREED !! including the diagnosis fee.

They still insisted that this problem was uncommon and not really seen regularly....

    Thought this story may help.

Hi Tayfee, it sounds like the same problem that I experienced. Get in touch with customer services at Renault, they may give you a reduction, as they seem to be keen to encourage their image as far as known problems are concerned
  • That's the trouble with all these multifunctional modern digital display marvels - they go wrong. Test drove an 04 reg Scenic last year, not impressed by dashboard layout and didn't really like car so didn't buy. BTW that's how car makers make money - on spares. Oh for the days of the Morris Minor and original Mini - circular speedo with needle, fuel gauge at bottom mileometer in middle and a few switches/knobs below speedo.

If something went wrong then you just hit it and that normally sorted it out. If it didn't you took it to the garage where a car mechanic (not a computer nerd) fixed the damage you had just done by hitting it.

Were you could open up the bonnet and idenyify the thing under it as an engine and not some thing that was a cross between an engine and a computer.

When things were simple and providing it was Japanese it lasted for ever (as long as it didn't rust first).
    Iva started Dec 2018.
  • I too have this same problem!!! 53 plate 53k miles scenic. Just been given quote of £452 from main dealer. Contacted Renault uk. Just fobbed off saying car too old and out of warrenty! No comeback. Is there anything else i can do. The CS manager was not interested in evidence on web as valid case against what must be a defect! Any ideas?

Try customer services again, and ask to speak to a superior, or maybe threaten them with Watchdog and or Which. Anything to get them to help, this problem is beyond a joke, and they must know that it is a fault

Sorry to hear that Kandyman, Renault keep ringing me to say that since 06 plate, thngs have got better, but I have yet to hear it from people on this forum. Why don't they admit that they got it wrong and reinburse people, that would be the best form of advertising they could ever do, and then maybe people would buy Renault again. I love my car, just a shame about the electrics. Good luck
