Hi we also have a scenic and the dashboard went out the same age as yours nealy 4 years old only 25000 miles i found out what the fault was but renault customer service haha still wanted a diagoses to be carried out at my expense to see if they would do anything for us. so we did so and now we have been told that they wont pay 1penny towards the repair and i have paid twice for the diagnoses and still have to pay for the repair and part did you get any help?
Hello Ilhana,
For me the same question : Do you know how to fix the fault yourselves ? I have the same problem and they want me to let them replace it for 900 Euro's0 -
I seem to be joining the ever growing list of renauly scenic owners with exectly the same problem, i haven't taken the car to the garage yet but it doesn't look good.Mine's a 54 scenic and the dash is just blank.
The same problem as all the previous posts!:mad:0 -
I have the same problem as all of you.
My Renault Scenic is just over 4 yeas old. 39K on the clock. I've owned it for just over 18 months. In that time, 4 coils have had to be replaced, a window motor replaced, a fan replaced, air-con broken down, and now my dash display. They want £69 quid to check it doesn't work (trust me it doesn't work), £469 for the part, £100 to fit it, and £69 for a service (and heaven knows what else they're going to come back with that needs done). And £40 for the MOT. I will NEVER buy Renault again, I want a car with an old fasioned dashboard too. I wouldn't mind so much if it were something mechanical or wear and tear but a part like this should not break down in a car this old. Has anyone found the part cheaper elsewhere? I'm thinking of taking Renault to the small claims court because as I've found out, I'm not the only one this has happened too and Renault are pleading ignorance. The man at their Customer Service centre told me, talking about their cars, "some you get are good ones, some are bad, it's down to luck". It's down to blinkin faulty car building!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarghh! Any advice on reducing these costs greatly welcomed?0 -

You should take a look at http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/ as they have quite a few people who have had the same problem but have managed to find cheaper places to fix it for them.0 -
I own a Renault Scenic 1.9 dynamique which is 3 years and 10 months old with 51100 miles on the clock, (estimated). Whilst driving it in France on Tuesday morning, the clock (time) and tripometer kept going back to zero. I reset the clock time about 4 times and eventually the dash board lights started to dim and brighten and then the display went completely blank. I managed to get on our ferry (luckily as we were coming home) then rang the RAC who could not fix it and they brought me back on a low loader. The biggest problem is that I couldn't tell what speed I was doing and no warning lights were displayed, eg indicators, lights etc.
The RAC took it to the Renault garage where I bought it from inititally and have been quoted the cost of replacing the intrument panel is £533.16, this was after some haggling when the original price quoted was £563.27. They said it consisted of 1 hour labour to identify the problem and 1 hour to fix, the remainder being the part which is £410.96.
I rang Renault to complain and to say that although the warranty had run out Iwould expect a car part like this to last longer than the normal 3 years. They said that they were not prepared to guarantee longer than the 3 years and that it was not a known problem with this model of car, even though I found a similar problem when investigating on the internet. I was provided with a case reference number.
The garage advised that they needed to know by 17:00 last night in order to fix for today as they needed to order the part. I gave them the go ahead and at 10:10 this morning received a phone call to say it was ready for collection.
I am mistified as to how if this is not a common problem the car part is so readily available and also would I have a claim in the small courts for parts not suitable for purpose.
Any help and or advice will be much appreciated:mad:
Sounds like the same problem i had with my 2005 Megan dashboard. The Renault garage told me i needed a new Instrument panel at a cost of £450.
A man from the AA gave me a number of people who repair them with a years warranty. My wife's 03 Scenic is now doing the same thing, came on line to look for the address again, couldn't remember their name but "Luckaly" i remembered had the number in my phone as "Ren Man" 02871 301023.0 -
Plenty of feedback on the Parkers forums, google it and go to ownership problems section. Which, incidentally, has pretty much turned into a Renault ownership problems section.
Renault UK are the pits. They should be ashamed of themselves but they're too swamped dealing with problems to offer any kind of decent after sales service.0 -
Hi Jeannieblue
Thanks for the advice, I am preparing a complete dosier, then hoping to take it from there. The car was fixed on Thursday morning, ready for 10:10 after giving them the go ahead at 16:45 the previous night, as they had to order the part by 17:00 in order to have it the following morning.
Hi I have the same problem let me know how you get on as I would like to bombared renault uk about it and i have already had a dashboard change and its happening again.0 -
I have found a site www.ecutesting.com that will repair the fault with the megane instrumnet cluster for less than £200. they have some good feedback and give a 2 year warranty.0

I have had the same problem, saw on BBC watchdog program that another make of car had the same problem as myself and he took out his dash sprayed the clusters with WD40 and he said it worked after about 100 miles.
I decided to try this and hey presto within 150 miles and with heaters going full blast this has worked. I suggest everyone gives this a try before spending any money on it. If you want to e mail me for more info then my e mail is nmorris@harper-adams.ac.uk.
Good luck

Hi everyone & a Happy New Year to you all.
The failing instrument clusters on Scenic's is a common fault & I'm sure Renault are very aware of the problem, however it would take a combined effort to get any action from them. Trying to tackle them on an individual basis will in most cases get you nowhere.
There are companies out there that will repair your cluster & give you a guarantee....if you're stuck have a look at these places.
